Previous owner left a stack of tongue and groove out in the forest to rot, I guess. The blue tarp had disintegrated that had covered the pile. I brought them home to dry out in my shipping container. Remarkably they are still in pretty good shape. I think they’re 16 foot sticks, cannot have been cheap.

Picked up two sticks of 24 inch double wall culvert for 150 bucks off Craigslist today to bridge my seasonal creek. Snow is flying, so unlikely to get it installed before spring.

I have a backhoe on my Kubota. I have it at home though. Don't have a trailer for it, so keep having to rent a trailer to shuttle it back and forth. Sucks, so next buy will be a trailer.

I bought 37 acres in the lodgepoles for 9,500. The only thing a person could build there is a 100 square foot shed. It was a nice parcel, but had a train track easement and power line transecting it. So, I put it up on Craigslist and got 30k after only owning it for two weeks. I priced it so there was still meat on the bone for the next owner (as its close to Bend, OR). I'm now buying 20 acres on a year round creek near Sprague River for 11k. It is not really buildable either. But, I'll probably make a 200 square foot cabin on skids. I still have my 5 acre buildable parcel too. I just wanted something a little bigger and more remote for camping. This is a little picture of the new parcel.

Ran down and did some fly fishing today. My parcel has a shared interest in a common land with ponds.

i want to always be on the sprague river and have like 40 acres but i have to say...even with some awful neighbors-we are doing good on our 2 and a half acres.we have good water.our fruit trees are growing.
we have our firewood in.we are building our little homestead.so all is well.
we still have a part of our land thats not conquered.one side is deep woods.we need to go thru and put a fence up but it will be alot of land clearing.
good luck Badger.

Have a lead on:

Shuffle pump ...it is a 3.3gpm 115V, capable of running dry, self priming, and capable of lifting water up to 12ft, with psi up to 45 with shutoff.

With 65 gallon tank. All wired up. Cost 60.

Seems like a good buy, thoughts?

Finally got a box scraper for my Kubota. My gad, what a difference when it comes to land sculpting.

Wow, note to self, get box scraper. Badger, your Kubota looks almost identical to mine. What model? L series. My loader is an LA525, yours is a 524, see no difference. Love my new Kubota. L2501

I see Northern Tool sells that exact model of box scraper. What width is it, 60 inches?

L3800. I bought it used with 17 hours on it.

It's 5 feet wide and just cuts like butter.

I paid 600 lightly used for this scraper. I can scrape forward and backward. In reverse, it feathers nicely. Forward, it really tears it up. I was ripping out mature sagebrush like nothing.

It's been awhile, but updating my little story. I guess as much as the cabin dream, the land has turned into my specialty. Finding little recreational parcels, researching them, and then making a good deal has turned into a little passion. My first acreage was purchased on an owner carry, as I had no money to funnel into recreation. Fast forward a few years and I've flipped a few parcels and now have no payments and 22k cash in the bank. I'm not any tycoon, but have had a lot of fun finding places and then helping other people start their own little cabin journey (with a small profit for myself.

I own Badgers Hollow outright, which is the place in the cascades of Oregon. I was able to find an "old hickory" shed on CL this summer, 20x12, and picked it up for 3800. Its insulated and wired. Had it delivered for 450 bucks. It's not as fancy as others here, but it's a start.

The other place I own is 5 acres up in the Alaska range. No cabin there yet, but I spent last summer cutting in the road and getting the site ready. I dropped big timber to open up a little view.

I have a few other places in mind for my next purchase. 40 acres in the Oregon desert for 14k. That could be interesting to diversify away from the forest, big geology there. 10 acres on the Sycan River in OR - cheap, but no documented access (there is a road to it). 5 acres with a cabin by Denali NP for 37k (walk in access only though). Or, a cool cabin on 40 acres with artesian well in UP of Michigan for 90k. I've never been to the UP but the land is very cheap there and it seems like there would be a lot to do.

I fall in love easy with these great landscapes. I just have the 2 five acre places now. I'm just thinking about one of the other places, part enjoyment part investment.

Got a wood stove in at Badgers Hollow. Picked up a Wood Mizer for some milling. Should be fun. But looking at selling the Oregon land and packing up for AK.
