No plans really formed yet...any suggestions?

Northern or Muskie? Beautiful lake. You built to that point after one day of work? No way.....how big? The land looks really pretty, is it right on this lake? Also what is the building to the right with the porch? Another cabin?

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the fall like temps we are suppose to get

I wish you could come up for a visit sometime, if so just let me know.

That little northern I held up to make it look like my daughter was holding it.
Yes, the cabin is on McFarland Lake at the end of the Arrowhead Trail out of Hoveland. It's a 16x20 loft cabin and yes that was only eight hours of work.
I had a special day off yesterday. The two oldest grandsons and I bummed around in the new Bronco with the top off, they kept saying, ''we never rode in a convertible before''. Then we went to a drive-in on Island Lake for burgers and to the junk yard to find seat belts, they weren't in a '66. I let the 12 year old drive around our field. They're so fun. We also stopped at a body shop to talk about painting. They got to see a 130 mph drag boat and some original '60's snowmobiles. They loved the junk yard. They ran around looking in every thing. I had to buy a couple brand emblems as well as my seat belts.
Well have a good weekend. I need to go wreck my beaver dam, but now I have the tractor with the frontend loader.

So, did you wreck beaver dams last weekend? Lol.

I'll let you know when we are going up and can get together. This is an extra busy next couple months for me my mother is up from Florida and there are a lot of family obligations.

We ended up at the Texas Roadhouse for dinner Saturday night and Bridgemans for ice cream treats. I never knew Bridgemans was founded by Henry Bridgeman from Duluth. Bridgemans was a favorite hang out when we were teens...we did not get the Lalapalooza though...that's what my girlfriends and I would get and share. Nice memories. Do you ever go there?

Know what I realized? You Minnesotans sure do love your casinos! We came up from Maple Grove after dropping my mom off and must have passed 6 casinos! In all fairness one was in Danbury which is in Wi. But still........and they were all very busy. Maybe one of these days I'll be feeling lucky and will go and hit the jackpot! Lol...I'm not holding my breath but it sure would be nice!

Have a great Wednesday

I just lost a long letter I wanted to post. Stupid puter. Anyway, yes the beaver are now under control. I have little interest in casinos. It's hard for me to trust someone who calls me a winner as they take five quarters from me and gives me back two.
We went for burgers and malts tonight in the convertible. Fun.
I know you're busy, but we miss you here. Keep in touch.

Yes, we have spent a lot of time in Bridgeman's in the past. The small engine shop I work in was a Bridgeman's. Odd right?

LOL...I just couldn't believe how many casinos we passed. Patrick do you turn off 35W at Hinkley and head over to 35 in Wi. to go up to your place? The other thing I noticed about the drive was that there are a MILLION billboards! Lol. It's always nice to take a different route and see different thing

Glad the beaver dams are taken care of...our pond is near empty. Boo.
All this talk is making me want Bridgemans.....it was so tasty

Yesterday we were south of Wausau for Collins's baptism. Beautiful old brick church right on a beautiful lake. Wonderful mass. I was honored to be a god parent.

Today we have grandson Preston's 2nd birthday party. Should be a lot of fun...

Got my mother here. busy, busy, busy..........................................

okay, I'll try to check in more frequently Owen. Lol. I appreciate you missing me

Have a super day all!

Yep, thats how I go up I prefer wis. 35 less stressful especially when I'm hauling a bunch of stuff. the tax thing for us is a little out of control I have a friend with land exact same value in minog? maybe south of us anyways pays half. The only difference I saw on our bills was I paid 500 a year for superior school district

Patrick,
If you pay 500.00 alone for school taxes, do you mind me asking what you pay all total? They are re-evaluating the whole county...makes me kinda nervous....

Owen,
Some parties are up at the cabin...that's always fun. I'm glad you had a great time this past weekend at your place. Not too much summer left, but I love fall at the cabin!

I gotta post some pictures. Last couple trips up we worked on window extension jams and trimming them out. Stain is done-need to finish the poly. It sure makes everything more finished looking!

I dont mind Its public information anyways we pay just under 1000 year now with no improvements Im sure it will be going up If you play around with the douglas county website you can see the values and taxes of everyones property there are some neighbors by me in the 5-7K per year so Im going to be careful on how many improvements we make

Seriously? You are already paying close to 1000 with no improvements? Dang! I guess I will be careful to not complain. We pay a bit under that with the improvements so far but they will increase with the completion of the cabin on this next bill. I'm just not hoping too much.

Owen, how is your son doing? I hope he is recovering more and more each day. Are you going to your cabin this weekend? Our weekend plans are still up in the air. Our son has a football scrimmage Friday night.....I suppose we could stick around here and do yard work all weekend but what's the fun in that? LOL.

I get to go to Famous Dave's in Woodbury today to meet my brother who will take my mom back to Maple Grove. It is all done up like a northwoods cabin inside....I know they all are decorated a little differently but this one is especially good and I really enjoy going there and soaking up the atmosphere.....the food is pretty easy to choke down too! Dave's bbq...here I come!

Have a great day!

Troll, my son is feeling OK, but getting around that factory is tough. He's learning to ask people to come to him. I think recovery is going fine, but many weeks left. I think if I get some house chores done here, we would go to the cabin. I do want to bring the tractor down and start bulldozing off the beaver mess. Now that I have it dried out. Maybe mow about a mile of trail. I'm dragging going to work. Just came in from a nice sauna. Sinus trouble and that feels great. Famous Dave's sounds good. How's the kids. There seems to be something going around.

Holy crap!

I was worried what the total would be after the well, cabin and all improvements were made but when the tax man showed up after we moved in and knocked on the door, he asked me, "Are you going to finish the siding any time soon?"

I said, "Probably not."

He said, "OK, then. No changes this time. See you next year."

No changes = $14 bucks here.

14.00? Almost seems pointless! LOL. That's awesome! Wisconsin has high property taxes and between our home and cabin it is more than I care to pay

Owen, when my son dropped a cart of steel on his foot at work, braking it and needing surgery, it was a long recovery too. Pins and plates and skin grafts all take time to heal. Long road ahead, best better adapt to your surroundings I guess.

Yes, the crud...that sinus stuff has me down too right now. A sauna sounds fabulous! BTW...when do i get that ride in the bronco??? Famous Dave's was good. my brother asked me what 3 items I would choose for the cabin if I could...I said the cool old canoe that hangs from the ceiling, the huge carved bear in the entry that greets you and the ax that is made out of a big piece of wood and painted...it's really large. It is good to sit here and catch up. I love my mother dearly, she is 84, but she sure does like to keep me engaged in conversation...I'm worn out!!!

That's sounds so bad. How long ago did that happen? Is he doing good as far as recovery. I'm glad you want to go for a ride. I thought you were mad because I didn't get the MG. Let me know when you can go. Enjoy Mom, mine has passed about six years ago. Maybe it's better that she went before my sister. That would have hurt her bad.

Too busy, Tom! I don't like being too busy

um, my son's accident happened in 2005 if i remember correctly. In April and then it healed but he was left with a lisfranc injury and that is what required the plates and screws. that was in Sept. and recovery continued into 2006 really. It still gets sore and bothers him now. the fortunate thing is that he was put in the office a while after it happened and he did payroll and bookwork for the company instead of welding. They then trained him to learn the cad software and made him a project manager. He's with a different company now but he is still a project manager. A misfortunate accident turned out to have a positive impact

BTW, you did not really think I was mad you didn't buy the MG! LOL.

If you get to the cabin have fun!

Oh, I could tell you were a little put off by me passing on the MG. You'd get over it with just one country ride in the Bronco. You don't have to stop and move a fist sized rock out of the way. A bit cruder perhaps, fits the owner to a tee.
About your son, It is funny how things happen to good people, just keep being good.
We started another build, even though we're not quite done up north. This is a fully insulated and thermo windows , but a 12x12 freestanding sunroom. We started it yesterday and should be done tomorrow. This one is a half mile from home, and fits nicely in our schedule. Next cabin is in Willow River just 20 miles from my cabin. Oh boy.

That's why I tell people I'm busy... to get out of the work I don't want to do! They are less upset than when I just say NO! LOL

I WAS NOT, OWEN! LOL I was teasing! I'm happy you found what you wanted and I'm glad Claudia enjoys it too! You will have many years of fun with it I know.

The MG was very nice... classic....I can do classy. But at heart, I'm more of a jeans and tshirt, dirt strip road, simple, country kind of gal. My MG is different because it is CUTE and a ton of fun, just a little BEEP, BEEP car ...not elegant and aristocratic like the classic MGA's. Know what I mean, dahhhling?

The bronco does come with it's own brand of fun...I know it suits you perfectly...NO SHAME IN THAT!!!! LOL!

They ALL are a fun ride and will get ya to the ice cream shoppe...........

I will post pictures later of Mr. Troll's new toy...a Polaris Ranger 4x4. The thing has gotta be near the same size as your Bronco.........

Tom,
I know what you mean...I need to work on that
You have that jeep.......I bet you know how to have fun with that, too!!!
Makes my mini van seem like a YAWN!!!!

Gotta run to town....have a HAPPY afternoon

Too? That assumes I know have to have fun with other things, as well.

I do love my Jeep! I enjoy taking it to cut firewood especially! It is so utilitarian. Sure, its got 196,000 miles on it, but it runs great and does its job. That makes it beautiful in my book!

But, it is only one of the things I know how to have fun with....there's the motorcycle, too.

Jeeps are just as cool. I don't know why I always kept an eye out for the Bronco. Anyway, I wanted to be able to take off her top. The Bronco! Your mind! Yes, the Ranger is quite close in size. I can't go onto those rec. trails., Bummer, but I can ride all the public roads and some logging roads too. I had a Kubota RTV 900. It was nice with hydrostatic drive, power steering and hydraulic dump box. It was too heavy for some atv trails though.
Lucky Mr. Troll.
