There seems to be a lot of posts about stolen property. Perhaps GPS chips would help, but if you find your property go to the police, don't confront the thief yourself.

Technology is definitely helping in this matter....I have several cellular trail cameras(Spypoint) that will send an instant photo to my phone or if they move my camera it will send an alert and if they take it and try to use for personal use it will send gps coordinates. I have already caught 2 persons on my property, the police showed up watched them, but they didn't break in, They did open a shed door where one camera was mounted inside ,they didn't see the camera and the shed is empty, they were charged with trespassing and public mischief.

We were given a couple Chipolos. They aren’t GPS trackers but are like the “Tile”. Chipolos have replaceable batteries - which I’m surprised some others don’t.

A regular changing of some batteries seems to make more sense and cost a LOT less than landfilling units, and then having to buy new units, and then set up new units, every year or so. The whole battery / battery-life situation though doesn’t get covered in most reviews though.

The Tile seems to get the most positive reviews.

The Best Bluetooth Tracker: Reviews by Wirecutter | A New York Times Company
UPDATED SEPTEMBER 19, 2017
Nick Guy

After putting in 25 hours of research and 35 hours testing the top contenders over the past three years, we think the Tile Sport and Tile Style are the best Bluetooth trackers for keeping tabs on your stuff. They have longer range, a louder alarm, and a larger crowd-finding network than anything else we tested. ...”

After testing the latest Bluetooth trackers, the Tile Sport and Tile Style are our new top picks, thanks to the best range—by far—of any tracker we’ve tested, the loudest alarm, and the biggest crowd-finding network. The Tile Mate remains a pick for people who want to spend less (at the expense of range), and the Tile Slim is our pick for wallets and other tight spaces. The TrackR Pixel is the best option if you insist on a replaceable battery, though it has shorter range and a smaller network.

—————-

If you insist on a replaceable battery or don’t want to use Tile’s trackers for some other reason, the TrackR Pixel is the next-best option. It had a shorter range than the Tile Mate, Sport, and Style in our tests (but a comparable range to the Tile Slim), and TrackR currently has fewer users than Tile so its crowdsource locating service may not be as effective. But the Pixel is smaller than the Tile Mate, and it includes truly useful features such as a replaceable battery and a flashing light...

Looks like we should check out “battery life” on any of these things.

Per google, The Trackimo battery life is 48-96 hours. Or 20 days with that extender thing.

Plus the $5 mo subscription cost after the first year. Another large ongoing cost.

Tile?

“Just like all other Tile trackers, non-replaceable batteries in the new Pro Series models are guaranteed to last one year with no charging required. After 11 months, Tile Sport and Tile Style owners can replace their current Tiles at a discounted price of $25 each through the reTile program.Aug 8, 2017
