I'm almost finished reading "I Married The Klondike" written by Laura Beatrice Berton (Pierre Berton's mother). Amazing book!! I've actually tried to slow down reading it because I don't want it to end. *sigh* I'm sure this will be one of those rare books that I will read over again.

Lol. cabingal. Your right. I got into him by reading a lot of outdoorlife mags. He used to have a lot of stories on the last page of every mag.

I'm wrapping up "The Old Man and the Boy" by Robert Ruark. It will make you wish you were the "boy" and hope that you grow up to be as good as "The Old Man." It's the best book I've read in a while.

Disclaimer - It's got a few naughty words in it. Nothing REALLY bad, but I wanted you to know. It bothers some folks.

I have a collection of louis l'amor, patrick mcmanus, laura ingalls wilder, a wildlife tracking book, a couple silly romance novels... and currently pride and prejudice and zombies. (which is not at all cabin related but it is fabulous). I need to build a bookshelf for the loft but how do I do that without taking much of the already limited space? Any suggestions?

we made tiny bookshelfs up our cabin wall but not in the loft.our loft is mainly small and for storage of clothes and camp chairs when not in use.
your book collection sounds much like mine.everytime i go to the cabin i read laura ingalls.
i love it.i love patrick.the one called-"everyone needs an old man"...thats so funny and such truth to that title.i read it to my grandsons.i love zombies but have not read zombie books.my favorite zombie movie is zombie land.love it.

Be forewarned: I have learned, though searching amazon.com for cabin books, that remote cabins are a popular setting or plot device for badly written porn novels. I didn't need to know that

A big thumbs up for Desert Solitaire. Abbey is kinda my hero.

Was A Sand County Almanac, by Aldo Leopold listed? I didn't see it...musings from the cabin of the father of modern wildlife conservation. Good stuff.

And this: http://www.amazon.com/Lillys-Tales-Bears-Lions-Hounds/dp/0944383483

Ditto on "A Sand County Almanac", it resides in the reading room.

I finished an interesting short book this morning "Brunelleshi's Dome" Ross King, about the construction of the largest masonry dome ever built without any supporting structure. The first patent, the beginnings of modern architecture, the discovery, or rediscovery, of perspective, intrigue, history (where did DaVinci get those ideas )... a good weekend read.

Although not books, we have a stack of old catalogues from the late 70's and 80's. One day when I was doing some organizing, I was going to throw them out. Then I started leading through a few from Sears. It was neat to see the styles and technology at the time so I decided to keep them. Sometimes on rainy days I'll have a look and show the kids what things were like when I was younger. They get a good laugh out of them.

Right now I'm reading "We Took To The Woods" by Louise Dickinson Rich. I think someone recommended it on another thread. I am really enjoying it and would highly recommend it.
