if you get drafts it could blow out the pilot light if you leave that open. I wouldn't.

Is it ok to leave the little one inch window open that i light the pilot through on my direct vent wall heater? Tired of that wing nutted cover.

How about putting a spring behind the wingnut? It will hold the cover in place, then you can just swing it out of the way when you need to, without loosening the nut.

Great idea! If it was a matter of just twisting the nut a half turn I wouldn't be bitching but the little metal door frame has some tangs so you have to screw it way out and way back. A hack saw should fix that. Thanks!

My house has radiant floor heating, circa 1955. It's wonderful, if you want to spend you life savings heating with it, which is why I burn wood for the winter months both there and the cabin. So here is the boiler and pump. On the other side of the wall behind is the master bathroom. Could I put in a small vented has heater on the other side of the wall and T off the boiler vent? I would probably just run it in the morning to heat the bedroom.

Ha, this is exactly what I did and it works great! Thanks Deercula. Only gripe now is that even though my line to the tank is only about 6' it takes forever holding the knob in to get the pilot lit.
