Sorry for the topic title, not sure what to call this idea, wanted to get opinions on it.

I decided long ago I didnt want to run plumbing in the walls, and would run it under the cabin and pop it up where needed.. Today I was thinking I would like to get my flooring in place but havent got my plumbing materials yet. Do you think I could simply make wood blocks and holesaw two input line holes , and one drain hole, screw that to the floor then put my flooring down around it .. much like you would a central air floor vent ?

Heres a small depiction of my idea. I thought I could use a 2x8 for the block and cut it about 10 inches long. leaving room for a few input lines and up to a 3 inch drain line. It's a bad drawing sorry. Each of these brackets would be put in place but against the wall where the line needs to be.. under kitchen and bathroom sink, bath vanity & one in the utility room.

If your coming threw the floor why not just install your flooring and when you need to install the plumbing just drill threw the floor and conect from below.

Well I guess I was thinking it would be easier to frame the flooring around the brackets for future floor remodels or plumbing repairs.. do you think this is not the case ? Perhaps im just over thinking it then. My flooring will be tile bathroom and T&G laminate everywhere else.

As a plumber I often just drill after the floor is down makes for a cleaner finished product but your idea would work just fine to..

Either would work.... the only thoughts that come to mind are
1. what if you change your mind about the exact location by the time you get to the plumbing
2. what kind of tile? Vinyl (easy to drill), ceramic, not as easy, special drills, etc

We also did our plumbing through the floor. We just drilled through after the floor was in. I suppose it could be an issue if we ever remodeled but that's doubtful. And we just have pine planks for flooring so we can replace piece by piece quite easily. What kind of floor are you planning to use?

Thanks for the replies.

MtnDon,
1. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on the perspective theres not much room for position variances now that ive put the walls up. Im pretty sure things will stay put in terms of water utilities.

2.Ceramic probably 1/4 inch, on top of hardy board or Ditra.

It may be worth noting that I will not be using any framed in cabinets, im converting stand alone buffet, bar table and such for my vanity and kitchen counter so small adjustments will be allowed on the cabinet side in terms of several inches ..

@Montanan,
What type of boards did you use, the WP8 and WP6 T&G variety with flat finish on one side and extra groove on the other.. ive been researching flooring as well and that seems to be a popular pine flooring in many of the stores ive looked at.

oh also, I guess while im at it. I should install my toilet flange.. anyone have any links to good instructions for that ? I will be installing 1/4 tile over either cement board or Ditra.

Thanks again everyone !

my 2 cents;
before you drill thru new or existing floor for Piping etc.
use a stud finder,so you DON"T hit the Floor Joist-Head on.
