a couple of fall pictures. The leaves always seem to be at least 2 weeks ahead of home, they will be gone by the time we get up there Friday.

Yeah, rain and wind is stripping the leaves off right now. Snow is in the forecast. Nice find on the panel.

the roof is on, I just need to rip one of the steel pieces with my table saw. I also need to install some cross braces between the stringers, the steel is sagging a little. I'm going to hunt all day saturday and until lunch Sunday, then go up to the cabin and work on it some. Good luck to all the MN hunters out there.

I brought a electric nibbler from Menards to rip the steel, works great for 38 dollars.
Good luck to you also. I feel lucky just to get to the woods with family. I won't be looking too hard until the last weekend.

Great thread!
It was agitating to see cupboards, flooring and most of all, light switches in before the drywall, but I guess thats what happens when you mud new houses all of your adult life. It was reconciling to see it all come together.

eh, that's what happens when you use the place for almost 15 months before doing drywall. I planned on it being extra work ahead of time.

Hey I saw your stairs in one of your photos. It looks like you squeezed them in a 4 ft space. I know they are steep but didn't see a hand rail, how is that working out? I need to do the same type of thing in my place, but I'm still churning it over in my mind. Any suggestions?

I haven't built the railing yet, that is my next project after finishing the porch, along with the railing along the edge of the loft. The stairs are actually only 30 inches wide, I forget how far the run is, I would guess around 6 feet.
yes, they are steep, but you can walk up them easily. Going down is better done backwards

nothing really exciting. The area got dumped on with snow so work outside is done for the year. I did finish the porch roof, in fact I shoveled almost 20 inches of snow off it last weekend. The porch is now allowing the snow to build up on the solar panels, so I'm going to have to move the panels come spring time.
It's time to work inside until spring, the next project is getting a railing on the stairs and upstairs loft so we can begin sleeping up there (and not worrying about rolling out of the loft!)

Snow in one picture and the fireplace in the other, it makes a mood.
I too still have to build a roof over a customer's porch. Tomorrow's is the first day in the twenties for a long cold spell. One day to work then it drops again. It's quite a winter here.

agreed, it's been a harsh winter so far comparatively so. It's looking like you might get an extra day of good temps, forecast now is calling for nice weather today, tomorrow, and Saturday, then back into the freezer with below zero highs on Sunday and into next week.

Yep...I was stunned by the quick cold and snow we had during the first part of December! This little warm up is nice as it gave me some time outside, but I am not looking forward to the negatives coming next week.
Dillio - Please feel free to post pictures any time! I am living through you and Owen right now until I get my land, lol!

well, since I was just given the green light to babble :D
One disappointing thing to report is that the oldest tree on the property BY FAR died this past spring. It wasn't doing well, only 1 branch was alive last year, and this year, nothing. The trunk was all hollowed out and I was worried it would eventually fall, so I decided to take it down. My Dad heats with wood so over the course of a few weekends, he took most of it home. I kept a few cookies to make a table or lamps out of.
The inner half of the trunk was totally gone due to decay, and there were dozens of mice living in there. Even in the growth rings I could see in only the outer half, I counted almost 130, so this tree was OLD! I wish I could have seen it in it's hayday.
For reference, that is a Stihl 038 with a 24 inch bar and chain on it.

well, the snow sure is ridiculous this year. I drove up to the cabin Saturday morning, and the township road hadn't been plowed since the storm on Thursday, and there was at least 15 inches of snow still on it. So, I parked on the main road and snowshoe'd in with the dog.
The snow was waist deep in spots, so much for my idea of 'borrowing' some firewood for the fireplace at home!
The dog had a great time bull dogging through the snow even though it was way over her head. You now have to step upwards to get off of the porch!
