I would like to know approximately how much would it be to drill a well in otsego county ny on a piece of property 10 acres for a house that is approximately 1200 square feet and has 1 bathroom now but may have another half bath build down the road

wells.....very DEEP subject .....
in the south...a drilled well with pump/underground wire/ and piping to your cabin is $4500 total..
call a LOCAL well company in your area is the best bet!!!!

cost depends on depth, what you're drilling through, what you do once you've drilled and other variables that make it nearly impossible to quote.
here an unfinished well costs $17/linear foot. finished is $21 - you gotta have a finished well to use it. I'd kick someone in the knee for a shot at a $4500 well. we're looking at close to $20k for a 430 foot well....IF we can find water the first time.

there ia a spring well (if that sound right) it is gravity fed but I was told the pump is not working and that the there is not enough pressure and I was told I need to drill a well. is there a standard for each county???

you are really going to get more and better info with one phone call to a local well driller. it is different everywhere, even within counties.

If you have an adequate flow of water into the spring box/well, then just replace the pump. If the spring flow won't support your occasional use, but does supply enough for use over time, then put in a float switch and storage tank to pump into. Then, plumb the house from there.
There are many ways to skin this cat (no offense to cat people) that may be much cheaper than having a well dug.

Ill have to check that out and inquire more Hopefully that will be the answer n I won't have to have a well dug.

I drill water wells and have drilled a few in otsego county...If you're talking about a seasonal home there may be better options than a drilled well.

In that case the local code folks might require a drilled well. I know they are very strict around Otsego Lake. You might be able to use the spring in the meantime.

First thing, talk to some of your neighbors and get some background on the area, then contact several well drillers and compare notes.
If you already have a spring you could create a holding pond, it all depends on what you want and what your pocket book dictates.

My well was 178 feet deep and just a steel lined hole in the ground cost me $8000. I do not even have a pump in it, it wil need the pitless adapter, an underground vault for the equipment to keep it from freezing etc. So add another $4000 or so. Expect to pay close to $15K max usually, for everything installed.

most properties don't have a spring you are very lucky
wells can get polluted and dry up it happens all the time
fix the spring then get occupancy and go from there
maybe your wallet could dry up too a spring is like money
people like wells because they cant just wish for a spring and the county likes wells because it gives them control it has to be permitted

Our well in No . ID was $10k. Drilled approx 225 feet down, trenched a line up a hill about 500 feet, 1200 gal tank, line back down to a hydrant. Estimate was around $12000, came in at less, surprisingly.
Included all; drilling, wiring, pump, casing, water line, etc.

i will find out the exact problem with the sping and if it is repairable. (if thats a word) what type of fixing would be involved

our well in s/w michigan is a shallow well (i think 50' deep only iirc) and would cost us about $4000 to drill again and use all new material per the well company..
so as has been said i would call a local well drilling company and they should be able to give you a round about estimate based on other depths in your area.
id also call your county health dept for the info about the spring water questions you have. i believe they will also need to test your new well water if you have one done.

Wow... I feel really fortunate when I read these prices. My well is 320' deep, with 63' of casing and a wired 3/4 hp pump plumbed to a yard hydrant. All for just over $5200.

A friend in the SE corner of UT had a new well drilled a year ago. 750 ft was almost $30K for a working well with a solar powered Grunfoss pump
