Does T&G Plywood cover 4'x8' or is the 4' just a hair less? Just wondering as I don't think it would be good to end up with a small sliver under the wall.

The four feet is a hair less usually. I think it will say "sized for spacing" or something like that on it. But each sheet will take up 4 feet- the slack will get taken up and exceeded if you aren't careful. Smashed portions of the tongue and groove may need to be cleaned up with a chisel so they will fit.

So I need to mark out beforehand so that I don't run short? Obviously I don't want to get to end and be a bit short. Or would it be better to start with 2' wide so that I could snug each one? It would use a few more sheets of plywood.

I think you should personally verify the sheet coverage from the place you will buy them from. Nearly all T&G subflooring I have used has covered less width than the 48". IIRC correctly something like 3/8" less per sheet. Some manufacturers like Huber list the actual coverage width. LINK, scroll to bottom

You stated plywood. If you can find the linked Huber product I believe you will be more than happy. Their Advantec stands up to moisture much better.

Thanks ICC. I thought about using Advatec, but thought since we are going to use the plywood for a while as the floor that it may be less splinters? Don't know if that is necessarily true or not.

I seriously doubt you will have any problems with flaking or splintering with Advantec. That stuff sticks together real well. We have a pottery and ceramics workshop with an Advantec floor we painted maybe 5 years ago using a porch and deck paint.

Even after being rained on a lot before we got dried in there were only a few stands of wood that came loose from the surface. Much less than previous OSB or plywood subflooring in previous years. I sanded a couple of those spots before painting and they have been great since.

Thanks ICC. Since they don't cover 48" I will have to rip one to start then.

Or if the building is not yet framed make it slightly narrower. I've seen somebody else mention that as a solution too.

I will probably just rip a few. I will use the waste pieces for something.
