Our project from the beginning. I hope this might inspire those of you thinking of building off grid places of your own.

Looks great. Nice to see how much work it is. But spread out over the years, step by step. How it all comes together. Best for 2019.

So was it all in one go or were there periods (months) of doing very little? What stages did you complete before taking a rest?

Thanks all

Rockies We built mostly in the spring summer, not much in the winter. Mostly weekends with 2 or 3 week sprints when we could.

Loved the video. You guys did and awesome job. Why did you put the water heater outside? Is it propane?

I would change the thumbnail to a frontal picture of the completed cabin. I think it has "mini viral" potential and could really take off with a popping thumbnail. Sorry not trying to sound like a know it all, I just really liked the video and think you'd get more clicks that way.

hct4all Yes the water heater is propane and unvented.

Mike, thanks for the idea.

Thanks for posting, interesting to watch the whole thing!

Couple questions came to mind:

Did you sand the interior wall boards or use them as-rough cut?

Do you know your approx daily electric usage when you're there? How big a lithium battery bank did you go with?

Great video! I've watched most your cottage build videos over the years but it was nice to see the compilation!

We had a lot of fun over the years with our place and getting the kids involved. We are now at the point where my daughter is finally finished school and working full time and my son is in his final year of school. They don't make it up as much anymore but still talk about all the fun they had helping out over the years. Memories you will cherish and you have captured them in your videos!

We left the boards rough. Our battery is about 4Kw. When everything is running we use about 40% in a typical day. I have a video that shows the setup if your interested.

Thanks skootamattaschmidty

My kids are still in school, I figure its a cycle, they will come more and less often as their lives change. But the cabin will always be there!

Thanks for the info on the boards! We have a local sawmill to our location that sells rough cut hardwood boards, I may look into pricing from them vs big box T&G then.

Didn't even think to look for a video on your solar setup! :-P

Wonderful video, really enjoyed the focus on the kids for this one. I've been watching all these over the years [can't believe it's been 5! We're all sooooo old now ] & hadn't realized just how hands on they were with the construction til now.

They will cherish memories with their grandparents & their mom & you forever. How cool will it be one day when they'll get to tell *their* grandkids they built this cabin *by hand* & every square inch of it had to be carried up from the lake on their backs in the snow by candlelight. (Hey, they earned the right to exaggerate!)

Seriously, your cabin is truly awesome but your family is just amazing.

Thanks so much! While editing the video I was reminded of how young the kids were. I really think this place means more to them than our city house even though they have grown up in the city.

Thanks for you kind words.

All our best

Nice! I thought I had a tough time getting materials up the hill but by comparison mine was easy. As you said, procuring and transporting is often more work than the actual building.

Hope you and your family enjoy it for years to come.

Actually that's not that hard to do editing as most of us think. There are easy free applications which can be used ...

I agree with u, oZeus121, and can add some more on this topic. Let's be honest, those who read this thread are not gonna work in paramount pictures studio, so why would they use hard software. Maybe you'll reply about some more free and easy apps, but I wanna mention Movavi for it's simplicity and functionality. Here is the link if somebody will need - https://www.movavi.com/videoeditor/
