Oh, the articles I find. Did you know you could line dry clothing in winter? I didn't, until I read this article about sublimation.

I remember seeing my mother putting clothes on the line and if they didn't get quite dry. She would bring them in and stand them around , near the kitchen stove . Then hang them over the back of a chair . Till they finished drying . Dad's long johns , standing in the corner were interesting. She also had a drying rack and clothes line in our spare bed room. The good old days before clothes dryers. old243

I have never had luck drying clothes outside in the winter. They always remain slightly damp. Bob built me an indoor drying rack in our laundry room using white PVC tubing. It lifts up to the ceiling for storage and I pull it down to hang clothes on.
We also have a heater in the laundry room just below the rack. The heater not only heats the room, it also helps dry any clothing on the rack. I only use my dryer for Motel bedding and towels and our own towels. Everything for us personally, gets dried on the rack indoors in bad weather and outside on the line in good weather. It is amazing how much longer your clothes will last when you do this.
