First, I have had a lot of portable AC's over the years and most barely lasted a season and ultimately didn't work that well then I decided just one more time and took the famed "Hail Marry" approach and got this Haier 6000 BTU Digital AC which has performed very well while drawing very little juice at only 88 watts in low or medium Energy Saver mode....this summer in Washington has been a warm one many days in upper 80's mid 90's, so I turn it on when cabin temp reaches 75 and let the AC take it from there for the day typically consuming 2 to Kwh energy in a day....a fair trade for comfort plus my tiny 400 watt generator can run it if need be at under 50% load on Eco mode so that is impressive, my most important lesson learned is don't buy according to square feet and BTU rating, always buy the next size up to be sure.

Portable ACs are prety inefficient to begin with so maby thats why the step up in BTU.

Think you missed the point, they have come a long way in reducing power consumption....used to be 1200 watts ten years ago for a 5000 BTU AC now 6000 BTU running only 88 watts, definitely moving in the right direction plus bigger, quieter and doesn't thump when it cycles.

I saw LG has a new heat pump AC unit for the home. That should provide even better numbers.

My 5-6 year old 5k btu uses around 400 when chilling and 100-130 when just on fan.

Creeky, I haven't seen anything come close to 88 watt draw with compressor running and blowing cold but am always looking!
This one on fan alone low / medium speed pulls 35 watts high 45 but always use low, place is only 195 sq ft.
Any decent lithiums, need 12 to 15 kwh, like Powerwalls don't like high cost to set up.

I agree they are much more efficient now than in the past. I dont know the specs, but a neighbor gave me a small window AC several years ago. It uses about $15/mo in electricity, about half or less than the last one I had. I tend to run them 24/7 once if gets warm out, the log walls absorb a fair amount of heat and radiate into the cabin during the night. I think Ive been using it 5 years, maybe more.

I installed a small window AC in my 4runner for the dog, theres a small Honda generator in the cargo box on the back. It wouldnt reliably kick the compressor over in eco mode, I installed a hard start capacitor as those on RV and boar forums have been doing, about $12 locally. It runs easily on eco mode now, and runs 6+ hrs on a fill of gas. I dont know the exact amount of time it will run on a tank, I generally keep it topped off before it runs out. It was several years old when i came into it, Ive been using it since late last summer than again this year starting in may.

The newer portable ac with dual ducts are a lot more efficient. No more taking conditioned air and dumping it outside.
