I was watching an episode of Building Off the Grid and a young couple were building a log cabin in Maine and they used this chainsaw attachment for debarking the logs in seconds. It was amazing how fast and efficient it was.

I have one on a chainsaw. I used it while cleaning up dirty logs. It uses planer blades that can be resharpened. I found it dulled fairly quickly if used in dirty logs. might be good to carve , I wasn't really thrilled with it.old243

I own one and it works perfect. I actually bought a new chain for one of my saws and ground off all the cutters and use it just for this, the cutters can nick the wood, its hard to keep them from hitting the wood. So mine are all gone. It uses 2 planer blades, I bought spare blades from Amazon, made my Makita. I let a co worker borrow it and he peeled a whole load of logs and have built a 16X16 shelter for his backyard. It also works great for creating flat surfaces for joints etc.

There is copys out there now, a little less. But Log Wizard was the original.

My great-grandfather had what I can only explain as a one-man lumber mill with limited power set up in his barn in NH. I wish I had pictures or enough details to explain it. Last time I saw it I was five. But I remember being impressed as all get-out at how fast a tree could be turned into boards.

Interesting. I find the draw knife pretty handy and spruce bark peels easily on green wood. Fortunately I don’t see the need to peel too many more logs with my major construction projects completed.

I'll be using mine this weekend and next week, starting on my 10X16 log park type shelter. Will use it to flatten log at joints and also flatten ridge and purlin logs for rafters.

When I built our cabin. Trying to get in was priority. Since it’s remote and took several years to get everything ready then get the cabin constructed and dried in. Most of the barking got done on the 6” ,3 sided logs. But I want to clean them up before I put the topcoat on. I was considering one of these how do you think it would work and what size saw do you think is needed. Thanks
