I have a friend who has one of these buildings...much larger for shop & he had a company come in had it spray foamed the inside...he has a nice window AC unit and it keeps the whole place so cool....like a giant cooler..and ...

272. Posted: 12 Jul 2015 01:30 - Cabin Construction / Question (livable?)
Yes, with some effort with insulation and ventilation, but I doubt you could do it legally. It probably wouldn't meet structural requirements so I don't think any building department would permit it as a living space. Would the neighbors care enough to call in a complaint?

273. Posted: 7 Jul 2015 12:28 - Cabin Construction / Septic system: Have I been thinking bass-ackwards?!
Yes. I believe you want to take the lower limbs off the trees in the perimeter, too, right? A lot will be taken care of in the course of building, putting in the driveway, etc. Then the rest will be tackled. I only have 2.5 acres. I forgot to write that I'm glad you all were able to fend off those uber-restrictive regs, ...

That may be true there, it certainly isn't here. If I am caught building a home without a permit, there goes my license, no license no valid contract, no contract no pay. What's a pension

... does turn out that the land tests indicate a sand filter, I'll go with Puraflo, which doesn't require a big drainfield and will give me more flexibility in siting my cabin, driveway, other buildings and won't require a bunch of tree/root removal. Remember that the Administrative Rules are "one size fits all" except when the size doesn't fit. And then there ...

So, I should have been moving onto my land and building by now instead of nursing a SLOW-healing surgical infection and fistula. Needless to say, I won't be moving for months. But I WILL be going up in September to walk the land with...

I would check with local building official to confirm what they require as each municipality is different as far as requirements for a building permit. I feel that is was a lot che...

bldginsp Checked with the building department and there is an open permit for this 1 bedroom residence, so that's a relief! I really, really appreciate your feedback and for the steps to take to...

If it was built without permits, even if it was built to code, the building department will require that the owner prove it was built to code. This means proving that there is rebar in the concrete, a difficult thing to do. If built without ...

Know the feeling, rmak, know the feeling! I'm not even THERE yet and some guy who lives in the subdivision was trying to scare me off! (See my building permits thread.) The good news on that one, though, is that he couldn't help jumping into a conversation between a few of us who are moving to the subdivision,...

There are also pages with checklists of procedures on what you need to submit and how to calculate your building permit fees. That's why I was so confused as to what this guy was talking about.     ...ver. IMO I recently built a 6' x 7' outhouse/bathhouse on my property so I could use my septic system. I applied for a permit, assuming that the permit would only be for plumbing since the building is less than 120 sq. ft. But because I'm in seismic and snow country they wanted a permit for the building. T...

...K, I feel like I've had the wind knocked out of me. On another discussion forum where some folks and I were discussing the area to which I'm moving, someone who says he lives where I'm building chimed in today. And what he wrote made my heart sink. I've spoken with county officials about the building process and read all of the county permit...

Hi. New to this site and hoping someone can help. I want to enlarge a 7x11 bedroom in my cabin by 5' to 11x12. I have a licensed builder who I have used before. He's great on building not so quick on paperwork. Am trying to get a building permit and am doing the drawings myself. Don't know how to represent the 42" requ...

Needless to say, my timetable for selling my house, packing up, moving and building has been shot to heck but I am NOT giving up/giving in! Lest, Littlecooner insist that I'm on about breaking or skirting the law, it was the code enforcement officer in the county where I'm building who told me my best bet is to buy a used camper to live in on my land while work commences and progresses.
