Another late wake up text last night from my camera. And when I wake up I spend the next two hours thinking about my projects. I need to find a way to stop deer, racoons, foxes and other animals from traipsing through at night. I tried a plastic fence but it's a pain having to take it up and down all the time, I would need another and it's difficult with uneven ground. My roughly rectangular yard has the road at the front, my shop at the back and open forest on both sides, prime critter areas. About 200' both sides.
Looking for other options, maybe hi-tech, like laser light beams, sonic waves, death rays... Or low tech, a scarecrow, some stinky smell, tack strips..
Help! I need my sleep!

You mean like a laser light at the gate, with a text feature? That is an idea. I tried putting the camera there but the road traffic triggers it. I do like seeing the whole yard though. And it's not hard to enter the property from somewhere else. Thanks!

Paulz if you want to know when something comes in your driveway harbor freight makes a decent motion detection driveway alarm. Although it dosnt text, only makes a chime at the base station when motion is sensed. I have had one for years. I even got two with the same channel so I can have a chime in the house and garage. I believe they where $20.

Wyze security cameras have an option for person detection, which works pretty well. You can set up your notifications so they only notify you if it sees a person. The cameras are cheap, about $20. Look at the critters later, when you're awake.
I use several Wyze cameras at our house when we're away (all summer). I'm pretty happy with them.

Thanks Brett. I have one of those up at the cabin entrance for when we are there, it does work fine.

Interesting, will look into that. The Moultie also has a feature that tags images as car, person etc. but I don't see an option to filter notifications.

Good idea. Then when a thief cleans me out at least I'll have gotten a good night's sleep.
The deterrent light I link I posted looks promising, might try that.

Have you had theft before? We lock everything up tight when we leave but our gated driveway is also 700ft long up a hill. There are alot easier places to steal from. If they take from me I wont make it easy and il have videos of them for the police.

Our cabin is also up a steep dirt road about the same length. That alone gives peace of mind, along with nothing really valuable to take. My new shop, however, is at street level and filled with goodies.
The camera has provided great peace of mind, if not sleep. The photos I get of friends that have access are easily identifiable. And the text feature means that intruders can be dealt with by neighbors or the law before they even know it.
I've been fortunate so far, no problems. And I'd like to keep it that way. I bought an electronic gizmo to try on the critters, we'll see.

My first thought. That’s the reason we seek out wilderness rather than a box in a high-rise.
However, just like for wildlife, human invaders are often the worst so its wise to be wise to them. Sounds like really soon good humanoid-recognition cameras will solve the problem.

Maybe reinforce your shop doors and windows and put up some solar motion lights to reduce numbers of people that might even snoop around. Better lighting would also lessen much of the worry and need to fully wake up to study any images.
Or put the camera inside the shop.

I've been using a solar-powered flashing light to keep skunks away (since they were starting to become a problem). I was about to set out the traps but these seem to work:

Good god. When i run away from the city to visit nature i like to believe im safer and less likely to get "cleaned out ".

I don't 'run away from the city to visit nature'. We spend half our lives at the cabin property. I have a full machine and mechanics shop there, work on my own as well as local's equipment. I'm a part of the small town community, and love it.

I have read almost all of that 19 page thread. Theres no question a place with no neighbors eyes viewing can be a target but that thread is about break ins. Each has a long story. If there was a thread about all the cabins that disnt get broke into it may be pretty boring.
About the first year and a half at our place we considered everything theif bait. I had cameras and purposely left things out that had no value to me. We still do this in winter but clean the place out, we are on a seasonal rd. I do have phone numbers of most neighbors and people who own property on the road. We all keep an eye on each other's property. In the beginning there where many lots not sold.

Thanks Lisa. Our situation is different than most here, as our property is only 20 miles away, so we use the cabin as a second home (getting to be more of a first), so it has basically everything a household has.
