I had a decent lawn for a few years but my suburban neighborhood is infested with gophers. Eventually I gave in. Thinking I might try again with some barrier underneath. It's about a 20x30 side yard. Thought maybe I'd dig down across one end, start a roll of barrier, thrown the dirt back over the roll and keep going. It's good loose dirt.

I have a couple of plastic and fabric type barriers, also a bunch of geotextile road underlayment. Would any of these be gopher proof, or would metal be better? Also how deep should it be buried?

I had the same problem. The cats took care of it.

.22 lr will work just fine or a nice bb gun quiet and effective.

When I was a wee lad my Dad absolutely hated gophers and I received a nice "bounty" when I presented a carcass. We also used poisoned peanuts down the holes but shooting was my favorite.

So I've been wondering about artificial turf. There is a guy selling used stuff out of a ballfield for 25 cents a sf. Doubt the gophers would go for that. And some of the other things they tout sound good. Safe for the dog, they say, and no dirt or mud tracked into the house. No mowing, no weeds...

What's the down side?

I remember what my father was like when I was a child. He taught me how to take care of the grass. I remember the first time I mowed the grass with a lawn mower, it was great.

Gopher Hawk is your friend.

Get the probe and hole puncher with it.

Sadly, if the neighbors are not all on board with eradication, worse yet, you are a decided minority, it will be a constant battle.
Kinda like a 'hood full of hoods.

Another item that gets rid of them is humanure, get it free from waste water treatment plants.
