Are we in a plywood shortage? I'm seeing $30 for 1/2 sheathing. I bought 5/8 a year ago for half that, and a few more sheets a few months ago for $20.

Temporary? I can wait, some..

All wood is outrageous for those items you can even get. In the US lumberjacks were incentivized to stay home with the extra $600 unemployment boost.
If you can use it the Amish are unaware of the shortage. They will cut anything i want at a reasonable price

Just wait. Between the covid overcharge fee and a active hurricane season this year..just wait. January this year 7/16 OSB was $9.99 a sheet, now $24. I check the prices about every 2 days and it was going up at least $1 a week.

This is prob going to push off our cabin build by at least 1yr, possibly even two.

To bad the amish dont make plywood.

Lumber futures were $350 per 1,000 board-feet in May 2020. They spiked to $850 at the end of August. They've since dropped to around $600. With all the houses destroyed by fires and hurricanes it might be a while before prices drop any more.

A friend of mine that sells lumber thinks that the days of cheap lumber might be over for good.

Local big box store sold 3/8" exterior ply for $20 a sheet in April, and it's $28 now. For my shed build, most lumber was purchased from a mill near Sudbury, who still had the same prices as in the spring. Anything I needed from the big box stores was up significantly.

We have an Amish lumber yard near us. They try to hold prices down... they always beat the big box stores by just a little... they have a local mill as well but only make rough sawn dimensional lumber and beams/house logs. They are having a rough time getting mainstream lumber from the suppliers as well. When we bought the 1/2" cdx for our shop in May it was $21/ea, just bough more last week for the lean-to we built, that was $36/ea. Glad this years building projects are completed!

Funny about the TP. My son stocks shelves in a grocery store, and he says they have lots of TP, but have been out of paper towels for a couple weeks with this '2nd wave' arriving.

OK, shortages of paint too, probably the ripple affect of covid and places shut down created a big hole in the supply chain or a big chunk of slack in the supply chain.

I'm needing 10 sheets of 5/8" plywood in spring for my shelter roof, hope things have settled down by then.

Just checked Home Depot, 1/2 sheathing down from $30 two months ago to $25. Still pricey but headed in the right direction.

Good news Paul, I was thinking if prices dont settle down, I was going to postpone adding the roof on my log shelter. So for now, its on unless prices are just stupid spendy.

1/2 sheathing still holding at $25, but not for me, har har.

Yesterday I was in the neighborhood of Home Depot. I only need one more sheet to finish my front wall, but have been holding off hoping I would trip over one somewhere. But the rain is here and I thought what the heck, I'll bend over, only one sheet.

So I go in HD, can't find any. There is a bundle three tiers up the rack but in typical HD fashion, nobody around, let alone forklift driver. Finally I found one errant sheet by itself in an unmarked bin. Also in typical HD fashion, no carts to be had, so I carry it to the Covid line and move up 6 feet at a time. Finally get to the register, the young gal can't find anything to scan on it. And she can't find anyone else around, and nothing I can do, I'm holding the plywood. So she gets on her screen, punches in some stuff and says "$13.28"! I'm immediately thinking punch in 100 of these. But I paid, hoisted the one sheet and walked out smiling.

Wow, just checked my home depot and we are identical to your prices except the thicker stuff is a dime cheaper.
