I'm constructing a lodge-pool pine cabin in Eugene, Oregon, and am finally at the staining/chinking stage. My question is, can I use a product such as Outlast Q8 log oil instead of stain on the logs?

Thanks for any insight into this!

I built a log home of lodge pole in eastern oregon many years ago... I used log oil the first time then about every two years I would pressure wash the logs and use hydraulic oil to treat them. Just about the same and way cheaper. Not sure if that is allowed these days but it was in the 80's-90's. The logs will sun burn with log oil so expect colors from light yellows to dark brown. I love how lodge pole ages like that!

Thanks, Nobadays! I think I'm going to go the log oil route. I do not see why it wouldn't be allowed, even though the code restrictions here in Eugene are pretty wide-ranging.
