Your cabin is going to be absolutely beautiful. I love your door! I saw some of them in a log home magazine which had hand carved "running deer, "turkeys", etc. I'm sure you have seen them. I know they are big $$$$$...but unbelievably beautiful.

Our cabin, due to its location, is uninsurable because (1) no one lives nearby, (2) we don't live in it (3) it has a wood-burner and finally (4) a firetruck or emergency vehicle couldn't get to it unless it was an ATV. Therefore....I am not so inclined to put a lot of money in it.

It will be "cute" when it's done but most importantly, the grandkids and our children will be able to make a lot of good memories there.

I am waiting to see some outside pics of your cabin once you get the siding done. We still have to put the batten-boards on the outside, put the windows in the front and rear loft (they're framed in) and then paint it that brown shade that resembles State Park Brown.

Keep in touch and good luck with your work.

Your cabin is just looking fantastic! The log siding will realy finish it off nice. I understand family time for the holidays, but I bet you will really be ready to get back to the cabin when you can!

Congrats on a really nice job!

Your cabin is very nice!
I am currently looking to start a similar project for me and my wife.

What are the dimensions of your cabin?
Did you have any plans to build from or did you just stick build/plan as you went along?

Very nice cabin and thanks!

drew it on a napkin the day i went to stand up walls.....
and things like--i want the kitchen window here so i can look down this old road to the deer feeder.... and the back turned into the front---AFTER i got all my windows in.....:-(
BTW---i took drafting in trade school/ and drew plats for surveyors for over 25 years as a side job to make extra $$$$,......and i draw my cabin on a napin or was it a paper sack???.... :-) good luck on your build----

TH,
It doesn't matter if napkin or sack. Point is - you did it and it's great. However, I would be forever happy with your old camp!

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question sir, I really appreciate it and again I really admire the work you did on your cabin.

I am currently offshore on a drillship in the gulf of mexico for 21 days, during my time spent here instead of working I am cabin planning lol. I plan to start my project once I come home on Jan 24th. and trying to get all of my ducks in row with how I am going to start.

I do have two more questions for you sir if you dont mind... is that maybe a 2x4 that is under your 2x12 sill beams? And I noticed in your photos across the 30' span that you added what looks to be 4x4 supports. Were you experiecing some sag, etc?

Thank you again for your replies.

Respectfully,

Ray

just did that with 4 x 6 PT---just in case--started out going to be a lower pitch roof --one story---then i got CRAZY and addded loft area = more weight--decided to do this for added support---also the piers will be stack stone wrapped --ONE DAY....LOL
any more question--just let me know---

Beautiful work!

This looks like it is almost identical to the one we are doing, layout, room placement and everything.

We need to talk!

Seriously, it looks great.

I was thinking more of the champagne ceremony for a ship but modifying for a cabin. Moose Drool?
