I am looking for a 14" wood chop that I can cut my 6" D logs with. A 12" only get 2/3 the way through and I have to finish off with a reciprocating saw which is time consuming. I see several companies making metal saws for this size but is there any for wood? I have yet to see any despite quite a bit of research.

Chainsaw. With some practice you can make accurate cuts with one. Very fast.

I have a hitachi one and my boss has a Makita one ,they are about $1000.00 to buy them .I would check the rpm and compare it to the 14” metal saw ,it might work perfectly as a low cost option .I once sold a 14” gas cut off saw to a guy that put a 14” wood blade in it so the speeds might be very close .

Just measured my 14" metal chop saw. The distance from the bottom of the blade to the table is only 4" under the clamp. It's the Harbor Freight one. The speed is about right though..

This might be a cheaper way to go... I think this is what our local D log builder uses.

I believe a bigfoot saw can cut 6in deep with a 10.25in blade and they cost a whole lot less than $1k.

I dont think you realize how much of a pain in the butt moving huge logs to a chop saw and getting them straight against the fence is going to be. Cut them in place.

Any chain type saw is going to leave a real rough nasty cut.

I made a mistake on saying my 10in saw will cut 6in deep. It will not. It will cut though a 4x4 in one shot.
I believe they make a 12in blade version too. I suggest a big circular saw. They arnt super cheap but compared to a decent 12in chop saw is only a few hundred more at most. These big circular saws also hold there value very well. I'm warning you though once you own one you find all kinds of uses for it.

I bought a metal saw and a wood blade. It cut my 4" logs but the log had to be rolled to finish the cut. It gave clean cuts. Yes when using long timbers of any size they are a bulky and difficult to move around. I moved my saw to square the fence with the log rather than the other way. Saw was easier to manipulate. I had something under the far end to raise the entire log to the level of the saw.
