Anyone else using the cell-based Straight Talk system?
I got this email that says I may have to change my “phone” /alarm base.

Your phone associated with xxx123456 is not compatible with VoLTE, the network standard. It already might be facing connection issues, like dropped calls and poor reception.

Starting early 2021, your phone won’t be supported and will stop working. To keep your Service, you must upgrade to a compatible phone right away.

Curious if anyone else has upgraded, Or if maybe the system is phasing out.

I like the system, low battery draw and it texts me when alarm is triggered. Worked great on one burglar!

Don't know about the straight talk system. But we have had to upgrade all cell devices, to stay compatible with their system.

Personally I would wait until its actualy not working to do anything. I feel that it could be a scare tactic to get you to leave the system you use now.

What is happening is Verizon is shutting off their legacy 2G and 3G systems entirely at the start of 2021 to expand their 4G and 5G services. Even though you may not use voice services, SMS/text still runs over the CMDA network which is what's being shut down starting 1/1/2021.

I'm guessing it will take a while to roll out those changes nationwide so it might be immediate, it might be later on but the phone will stop working at some point.

It's not just Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are in the process of doing the same thing.
