Returned to my city garage to the smell of a dead animal. Internet says 'open the door and smell'. That's a big help, my garage makes Darz's shop look like an operating room. They make metal detectors, propane sniffers, don't they make a carcass locator? Any way to figure out where it is? The dog is useless, just turns around and walks out.

Follow yer nose, lol, it'll lead you right to it.
If on the first go-round you dont find 'it' move out everything that moves fairly easily and give another go.
After that, if not found, leave the door open and put in a fan, after a few days it should become tolerable.
Nice toyz, btw

Send your wife in...women tend to have a better sense of smell than men do.

Willie, I would agree but I seem to be a better smeller. They say when you lose one sense another takes over. My vision is bad, hearing worse, but still got a good schnoz.

Anyway, smell not so bad today, I guess I'll stumble on it sooner or later.

No suggestions as to finding it but I do have a recommendation as to getting rid of the smell.

I bought one of these
https://www.amazon.com/Enerzen-Commercial-Industrial-Deodorizer-Sterilizer/dp/B00JAP7 388/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=ion+deodorizer&qid=1608312162&sr=8-4
when we had something die in our garage. A couple cycles and no more bad smells. Since then I use it every spring to get that musty smell out of the cabin. I've also used it in a teenage boys room a couple times to get rid of that teenage boy funk.

According to Amazon I bought mine about two and a half years ago and its still working last I used it.

I had opportunity to borrow an ozone gen some years back, used it in our terrible musty basement that had been left with windows open before we bought the place. Guess they thought that would vent it out but it just stacked humidity in. The machine worked really well. After that we keep it closed up and run a dehumidifier with good success, though a few times I have wished I had one to run periodically.
I understand car dealers often use one to de-stink cars they take in trade.
