Had the a couple of the grandkids out today for early Christmas. Fixed them up a go kart so they aren't always stuck riding with grampa in the side by side. They live in the city, and look forward to visits away from it all. Today, no TV, internet, cell phones etc. Just family food and fun.

No kid will ever remember a great day playing video games or watching tv. There just time wasters...until you can do something real fun like this.

Good stuff right there! You never what little thing will spark something inside a child that stays there for life.

Darz...is that the cabin in the background or is that an actual shed?

That's my shop. But a buddy of mine liked the layout and how it was built, so he's gonna order one, and use it for a cabin. I designed it with a couple more windows and a porch. I will post a couple pics. But they're on another computer.

This past Columbus Day I saw my dream realized. With the cabin done enough to make stays with the family comfortable we spent 3.5 days there and my brother came with his family and set up his camper behind the cabin. The five kids spent the days playing, picking wild apples, exploring the woods, target shooting, and driving tractors and golf carts. Seeing them make great memories is what this cabin thing is all about for me.

Gotta agree on that one. There's something still magical watching kids have a blast. Good looking bunch of kids. 👍

Seems like some of the skills kids learn at the cabin. They actually take home with them too.
This is one of my grand daughters that likes to help me in the shop. I got her a set of plastic kids toys, with a screw gun, hammer tape measure etc. She told her mom she had some work to do today. My daughter snuck in her room and caught her " fixing" her stove.

Great picture! Looks like you have a good little helper. I hope she takes her stuffed animals off her stove before she turns her stove on.

Lol. Me too.
Don't know what she was "working" on. But she removed the doors and shelves and things. Just to put herself in one of the most uncomfortable working positions I can think of. So it must have been important. 🤔

Had part of the family out Sunday. Turned a couple of them loose in the shop.
Hooked them up with a couple of " cordless" spoke shaves and a pallet board.
Been teaching them how to use old school tools. They really get into it.

darz5150- You are right, the best days are when the grandkids show up. They tire me out but it is worth it.

While I agree with you, I unfortunately think we may be dinosaurs.

My kids spend hours talking about great video game days with their friends. Whether its all online or they have "lan" parties and video tape it. Its what kids are into these days and they are making memories! I don't really get it, but I guess its no different then going out and building a snow fort. Just a time waster, but we had fun doing it.

We built our cabin so I could teach the kids some practical physical skills. Then we would have a place to go where we can balance out some of that screen time.

As an aside, I have been teaching my sons to shoot.. and damn all that gaming and hand eye co-ordination has made them damn good real quick. It took me years to get that good, them it took days!

Awesome! A few months ago I bought surplus playground equipment, so we'll have a slide and a firepole for the kids and cousins when they come up.

I always want the cabin to be where the kids want to be!

Had a family get together yesterday.
My granddaughter had a surprise she wanted to show me.
She pimped out her mini bike with LEDs. She put on a tail light, front running light, dual head lights, and some of those twinkly fairy lights.
She was more than proud to tell me that she did it all herself.

I have to add another thing. Although I am very happy/impressed with her work, I have to admit that I enjoyed the light show the most, while chasing her 200# + father, on an 80# minibike through the woods in the Log Dawg after dark.
We were laffing so hard he ended up getting away from us, because it looked like a Sasquatch that was trying to escape after steeling beef jerky on a minibike in a wacked out Jack Link jerky commercial. Lol
