I picked up some more items today to add to my emporium of "You can't throw that away"
Collection.
This is a Revere O Matic rotary tool. Made by Revere Camera Co. Don't know the year yet.
Plugged er in. And it worked. 1 speed.
Now I already have 2 Dremels, 1 Chinese knock off, and a 3 inch bench grinder with a Dremel PTO tool.
Do I need another rotary tool? ........... .
Hell Yah!

I have to give a shout out to Paulz.👍
When I first opened the case. I laffed. And thought about Paulz. You sir, with all due respect. Are the Duke of Dumpsters,. The Sultan of Scrounge. My whole life I thought my dad was the best. But I enjoy when you post about your "Aquisitions"

I'm not even sure you could call that trash, looks like they just cleaned out grandpa's work shop.

I have a friend who is a a scrounger like me. He said by the time I'm done with it theres no usefull life left in it. Local dumps use to be like a treasure hunt but they stopped that. Now it's all road side pickups. I have filled the back of my suburban many times before and I never drive around looking for stuff...always seams to find me.

Lol, thanks Darz. Good score. I have one too, natch. Handy for odd jobs that come up. The one thing I have used it for repeatedly is trimming the dog's nails with the sandpaper rolls, after I saw them do it at the pet store one day. Wife doesn't like getting scratched up.

Too much stuff that gets thrown out isnt junk
The trick is knowing the diff!
I'd have grabbed that without even having to think about it.

That Revere tool will probably still be running when all of today's Dremels are long dead.

All these were tossed out from a True Value/Ace hardware. There were also about 8 packages of various size tap cons

Bwhahaha. I was wondering if anyone else would catch that. I noticed after I posted the pics. However, in order to retain my Man Card. I did carve a snake and a spoon. Lololol.😎

Just picked up some used Selkirk out of the dumpster of a house remodel. Looked like it had a gas vent ran up it so absolutely clean inside.

I just upcycled a 10 x 10 dog kennel into a 6 x 10 yard equipment shelter.
I didn't need 4 walls so I used one for the roof. Then cut down the sidewalls and used one of the off falls for a divider to support the roof.
I will probably put sheet metal on for the roof
But for now just used a tarp. I have enough tarps to close in the sides if need be.

Nice score on the vent pipe that’s probably at least $600.

I picked up a sofa and 2 chairs today from an estate sale. I went yesterday and they had $500 on it so I passed. Then my buddy who worked for the family told me anything that didn’t sell was going in the dumpster today. Guess what was still there this morning?..... I was happy because it’s a smaller not over stuffed set that won’t over power the cabin living room.

Man, I guess I've been slackin', good scores!

Actually I haven't been. A wealthy race car driver I did some work for is moving, said come over and get stuff. Nothing cabin but free just the same. First I got a load of race car parts, roll bars, exhaust, ramps, misc. stuff I'm still figuring out what to do with. Then he gave me his automotive library. 250 books, filled my truck, then my living room. Nowhere to put them and probably never read them so I put them on Craigslist. Got one response, guy came over and offered me $2K! So they are gone, needless to say.

Remember dumps ? That was where weekend markets started. Only everything was free. I would take a truck load to the dump n come home with a load nearly as big. I even have the old sign that says dump .
A big hole in the ground. Some would torch it weekly to reduce space. Lots of target practice shooting rats.

We used to have a "re-use zone" at our dumps around these parts. It was great for dropping off things that still had a use for someone and picking up things you had a use for. Not sure why but they stopped doing it.

We still have those but it's a little different now. You pay to drop off and you pay again to take anything..

We do have the one day a year 'Recycle Circus', and it's grand! They block off a street one over from Main St.. You pack your truck with your junk, head over and get in line. When you get to the start, they unload for you as you drive though and put it into sections they have set up: Electronics, Clothing, Building Materials, etc.. Meanwhile people are browsing and picking up what they want. All free. It can get a bit crazy since a lot of good stuff comes up quickly for grabs.

Here's my Blazer last time at the end of the day.

At our local waste transfer station they put up big signs "No Scavenging", which seems counter to the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' mantra we've been taught. Prior to the sign going up I had grabbed a small 5-gallon air compressor in the scrap metal section on m way out. After repairing a burnt switch, I've used it on and off for 15 yrs with no further issues.

Yep. It's been cold. I think I piss away more BTUs keeping warm in the shop than in the cabin. Cranked out some other oddities of scrap wood. It's kind of fun/mind boggling using a pencil and paper making something that will work in 3D without a computer, CAD,CNC, yadda yadda.
But however, I will be posting another thread about a poor man's glo forge.
As as side note: I don't know how many tools one man needs, but if I figure it out. I will let you know. 🤔
