You need to get the weather off of it and seal those logs, should have much more overhang. I'd drop that tree for sure. One could take a chain saw and gut the bad section out and try to splice in a new section, get one the same diameter and fit it in tight then lock it in with timberlock or ledger lock screws.

Agree with the above, and while the overhang might be OK without the tree bigger would be better. But water will splash off the tree and keep that area much more wet than it can handle.
Repair at that stage is pretty much impossible. You need to cut out the rot and scab in a new piece. Then seal everything. And definitely get rid of that tree.
You can buy Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealers that could have saved that long years ago, so might be a good idea for any that are just starting to rot, but that one is too far gone, and you need to cut that rot out first. Then patch as best as you can.

We successfully repaired some small rotten areas in our Oregon log home using an epoxy primarily used in wooden boat repair. The Forest Service has used it for repairs on some historical buildings. However, you may need to slab out that section as Toyota suggests... a little too big/deep for epoxy and sawdust filling.

By the looks of the log a few sections above it you have more than one bad log. I would start by stabbing into the logs with a screw driver or knife. It's a good time to add a window if you would like.
I would also cut that tree down. Trees close can really alot alot of splashing onto a building, you might be suprised how much.

Thank you. We just purchased. Just trying to figure out the best way to proceed. Looks like the tree is the first move!

Sure would have been easier to have taken that tree out when they built. After 35ish years here Ive been surprised how fast little sprouts turned in trees in those few short years, and a whole lot more work! lol
Seems to be a common problem, and Im guilty of it myself, leaving trees too close when building or building too close to a tree. We like trees but eventually all those too close have to go. Better to do it sooner than later.

You can still repair. Use marine epoxy.

Well, yeah....marine epoxy is great stuff (Ive had two vintage mahogany lapstrake run-abouts; like old cabins I think they all have 'issues' too).
And just like in boat repair you really need to find and address the why, remove all the bad stuff and epoxy in new.
You will learn a lot in a few hours spent with a mallet and wood chisel.

i might get a couple of boos for this idea lol but here we go , tryed to get my two bottom logs fixed on 24x24 log house couple years go by no takers so being a concrete guy ,,,, frist i cut a slot a ft wide in 3 spots bent a piece of tin to forum the two logs and left a opening at top . next filled bottom block / foundation with insulation put in lages in top good log to ty in good log , filled with concrete taping tin toget nice finish let set . few days later removed tin and now logs above are supported now cut rest of logs away leaving inside 2 inches of log ,was still good found a piece of 12 in. water pipe and cut to fit profile of each log install lages in upper good log for strength and movement , left a opening at top all the way along forum to pour crete in did put some rebar in there filled it up to top pounded the forum to settel crete pulled the forum off next day and fixed bad spots shaped what i had to while its still green mixed a slury and gave a broom finish,,stained it and saved a log house ... now there is people that can replace the log with a log but very pricey ...
