Anyone know the rules?
Can the septic system discharge into lake or how far away from lake side does the leech field need to be
The lake is 12 acre and privately owned
Thanks

Ask your county or state department of health. The answer is probably no to discharging into the lake, no matter who owns it.

You can probably look it up on the website for the county/province/etc it is located in.
Along with permits, fees, inspections, etc.
Most likely you will decide you just ought to 'hold it' while there and use the 1st gas station on the way.
Or 'bag it'. Take a look at the Luggable-Loo.

Please let me know where this lake is so I can avoid it.

Compost.....gray water system
Look in to composting toilet options...Cheaper, easier, better for the environment.
Gray water drainage pit ... same advantages as above.
Our place is a weekends, occasionally a week. 4 people no issues...
It works for us anyway....
Even with these single digit temps we’ve been having it all seems to work out.

I can remember before they cleaned up Boston Harbor in the 60’s/70’s...It wasn’t uncommon to see a turd or two floating around. It sure wasn’t tea...It may explain why the fishing was so good..

Not only is there a distance from the lake-at least 50 feet-but also due to the lake, the soil may not perk.
Talk to the local sanitarian (I learned that word) before proceeding with cabin location to avoid problems. In Tennessee, at least, there is no grey water, everything goes into a septic tank if the structure has pressurized water.
Your situation will be different, but this is one case of unlikely forgiveness.
