Hey there!

Looking for some recommendations for helping absorb moisture from our cabin. We are currently using damprid. Any other suggestions would be great! Thank you!

We leave vents/windows open when we are not there. When we are there, the woodstove seems to take good care of the humidity we put in.

Like Brettny said, where is your humidity coming from

I believe from 4 metal windows that need replacing. We just bought our cabin last month. In my reading and research this seems to be part of cabin life. Maybe I am wrong?

We always have closed our cabins up and not had humidity issues. Note that we are not in AZ but WI where in the summer most run dehumidifiers or AC.

Concerning damp rid. You can make your own on a larger level. Take a 5 gal bucket and drill a series of holes in the bottom. Set it in another 5 gal bucket. Put a layer (a few pounds) of calcium chloride ice melt in the top bucket. Make sure it's 100% CaCl as the mixes don't work. Absorbs water just like damp rid and the water collects in the second bucket.

I use this when we close up boats for the winter and the same with our cabin, but honestly don't know how much it helps. I do end up with water in the buckets in the spring, though. (And have never had a mold problem in the spring)

I would leave windows near the peak open before you do anything.

Do you have an un vented heater?

The only source of heat we have is the wood stove.

Great trick! Thank you.
