Hi Everyone,

I’m new here and currently building a small 12x14’ (including enclosed porch) cabin. All out of logs. All frame and structure (roof and floor) free hand milled with a chainsaw. I would like to post pics of my build for feedback and discussion.

I just finished peeling the inside yesterday. On my next trip out to site I’ll be installing windows.

Hi gcrank1,

Right on! I agree about the chimney I’ll be adding another section once I put the tin on (so I can bolt supports on top).

Looking up you can see the bottoms of the half milled logs that I will strap and cover with tin. I plan to mill 2” thick planks for a ceiling in the hopes that will work as a thermal barrier to prevent condensation. This one I think might be a stretch anyone have experience with something like this I’m all ears?

Thanks Irrigation Guy,

I’m also using an upside down saddle notch. I have found it faster to make and since I will have 3’ overhangs and wraparound covered walkway no rain will get the chance to seep into the (wrong way) notches.

I decided to do this to test different methods, ideas, and mostly myself.

Thank you. I’m also posting all the build videos on my YouTube channel but I am hopeful to get build specific feedback here. I’ll include a link to my channel in case anyone is interested.

It looks good, a true log cabin.

I bet you have learned a ton about building and yourself. That is the all this is really about. The cabin is just a benefit.

That’s a great perspective. I think I’m an addict though. I’m not finished building this one and I’m already planning the next one.

Here are some pics that detail the rafters. Instead of butting the ends together I just staggered them. Wherever they aren’t square I’ll make sure the strapping is.

You are doing great work in the coldest part of winter and beating the high price of lumber, too. Thanks for showing us how it's done!

Thanks Curly,

I don’t know what’s scarier the clown from it or the checkout at a Home Depot.

I like the 'thinking outside the box' to 'make the box'

Speaking of boxes... I have two more shifts before the windows go in.

You have a steady hand on that chain saw to be able to free hand boards. Great job.

Thanks Bob,

They are far from perfect but it is pretty cool to be walking around on them now.
