I was wondering how you folks have been accepted by your cabin neighbors and the local community in general? I assume most of us don’t live in our cabins full time and are technically weekenders/tourists in our respective cabin community. I have made some casual friends and generally feel welcome. The reason I ask is that where I live full time is a tourist destination for obnoxious wealthy people that generally make weekends and summer unpleasant. They don’t always get the warmest welcome even though local people rely on them for lively hood.

There are not that many full timers in our slice of heaven. Of the six properties with structures, none are full time. We have one full timer about a half mile away. He was gracious enough to pull us out of a snow bank 5 years ago. Since then, He has lent tools, motored down on his lawn mower ( minus cutting deck.) to check when he hears the Jenny start up for morning coffee. The weekenders all know each other, check on unknown tire tracks.
I think it is a good group here. Some are getting older and do not visit so much. Prices are exploding here. With properties remaining on the list about 6 to 10 days. I am sure change is a coming. Enjoy the place and the summer everyone

We have met the full time neighbors bordering us and a few others farther out. None seem put-off by us, maybe because we seem to be of a similar socioeconomic strata, age and 'challenges'.
Probably helps that we cleaned up a messy property and really like the same lovely land there.
Just starting to think about maybe doing a bar-b-q.

I think we have been... there are about 80 cabins spread out over the hillside in our area but only 3 cabins are occupied year round or nearly year round. We are one of those spending 9-10 months a year up here. Spending most of the winter up here gives us street cred! The other thing that gives us credit with the locals is we aren't from Texas or Oklahoma... as weird as that seems. Probably 80% of the cabins up here are owned by Texans and Oakies.... good people all, but the locals kind of have a bit of resentment toward those folks buying up Colorado.

It's 50/50

Some of the locals that had lease the land for a hunt club were kind of upset that timber company sold the land. But the folks that live near by that are full timers have been good. Others that got plots at the same time have been great- we try to watch out for each others plot.
It helps that I am a redneck. Us and hillbillies are cut from same cloth

Well I suppose that depends on how you see / view it.

When you walk into the Grocery Store, Bank, Restaurants or one of the Local Hardware/Lumber yards and they recognize you & greet you by Name count ?

When walking into the Donut Shop and they are already pouring your usual coffee even before you reach the counter, does that count ?

I know a few "neighbours", some worth knowing, others not so much (but best to know who they are).

Yes, befriended a local who have keys to gates and cabin. Very helpful and handy, a check up on place after windstorms, put up scaring devices when a woodpecker started to attack my cabin and those scaring devices were 100% successful.

I get all updates, bear sightings ahead of time, snow reports, fire reports. I have met most of my neighbors.
Rule out there is "if the gate is open, stop in to visit", if its closed, "respect my privacy". Open gate = welcome mat, closed gate = beat it, no solicitors.

I'm trying to accept my neighbors.

Actually get along OK, just wish they didn't always seem to have a bad back.

Our local town isnt really a town, just a old unused town hall and the highway dept..theres not a gas station, hardware store or even restaurant in any of the towns that boarder our town...so I dont spend much time there as if you blink your alreaty through town.

Definitely! We have a full-time neighbour who keeps an eye on our place. If we go up in the winter he will plow out a parking space in my laneway so we have a place to park. It may help that my cabi has been in place longer than he has been living there. One family that has lived on the road for years is always inviting us over, to the point we try and avoid them at times. When I do go to town, people recognize me and always say hi.

There's probably 30-40 cabins in total back on the road to my place...only 2 of them are full timers, one of which is 2 doors down from me. Everyone has been extremely helpful and friendly so far...heck, i wouldn't be as far along with my place if it weren't for my 2 neighbors! I think my full time neighbor likes when i'm up there because when something goes south for me (getting my truck stuck, sinking my tractor, etc.) it becomes a something challenging for him to do!

I think most Wisconsinites are pretty friendly in general and particularly in cabin country...especially if you show up with a beverage in hand!!

We have been up there since 1987, cabin was built in '92. We have about 3 miles of private road behind a locked gate and everyone basically looks out for everyone. Most thefts have been people coming across in boats and stealing.

I only have one human neighbor who lives about a mile from me, and other than that there is a long drive to any other neighbors. We get along great, help each other with big projects, and do some subsistence together. That said, we only see each other about 10-12 times a year and it could be many weeks between episodes where we would see or hear another human. I kind of planned it this way.
