Trying to decided what I want to do for a railing.
3 little kids and a 9ft drop- need a good railing! We’re leaning toward a 3’ high pig wire panel (the nice black coated ones used for deck railings) or some similar welded wire. But I’m not 100% sold on it.
Would love your ideas or to see pics of yours.

Kids can climb pig panel and everything that has anything horizontal. Maybe not all kids will but I have known many that can and will. Yours truly included.  For best safety use only vertical spindles, pipes or whatever from floor or bottom bar to top bar, and have no space larger than 4 inches. I think small diameter spindles, pipes, etc. are better than larger ones as the smaller diameter are harder to climb, harder to get a foot grip on from what I have seen.

I'm not sure if your railing is indoors or outdoors or how long the railing is. Indoors I have used plexiglass in a wood frame and that worked okay except it had to be cleaned often because kids leave their prints all over it. A friend used an old seine net with rope reinforcement for a railing at his fishing cabin and it looked good (and was ok for a fishing cabin). People can be pretty creative depending on what look or theme they want. See the pictures attached. Or you could make a short 3' tall wall rather than a railing. If you have room you can make 3' tall shelves for storage rather than a railing, although your kids might climb on that like the hog wire. If your kids are particularly ornery, you can go with barbed wire or electric fence. Good luck!

So I have been going back on forth on what I want to do for my railing....My initial plan was rebar or copper pipes....
However, as time has gone on and guests have used the loft I think I am leaning more toward a short wall with corrugated metal panels....Reason is to give the loft some privacy... guests are unable to get dressed up there without being visible to the living room.....
I know every situation is different, just some advice based on my experiences....

I used rebar I painted with rustuleum and 2x4s on our homes deck railing. Nice to be able to see more through them because they are small n strong. And less expensive

How does the paint hold up being outside?
I have an upcoming deck build and was going to paint cattle pannels and use them for under the railing.

If you're still gathering ideas, Ana White recently used 1" flat metal bar on the stair+railing for a 'cabin house' she & her husband built on spec. It was surprisingly economical & seems robust enough to stand up to kids, you might want to check it out too:

Finished my railing this weekend.
Here’s what I went with. Nice black Welded wire panels sandwiched between 2x4s. 2†square pattern.
I used the rafter tie in the middle as support as well as a post from the ridge down as a center support, then another 14 ft 2x4 across the top spaxxed into the rafters. I pieced the rest in with 2x4s. I spaxxed the bottom 2x4s into the joists of the floor.
I am very happy with it!

Nice..
We are toying with the idea of a barn look on the outside and super modern on the inside (an interesting juxtaposition as you cross the doorway).
Anyway.. We are thinking along a similar line as you (hogwire), but with metal railing. Kinda like this picture.

I like that! How do you secure the railing? Is it just galvanized 1/2pipe with a foot/flange screwed into the floor?

Its more than 1/2" pipe in that photo. I think that is 1 1/2" pipe.. and Yup, just a foot flange bolted to the floor!
