Hi guys, in the next week or so I’ll be heading up to install the metal roofing on my cabin. I looked through ideal roofing’s install manual to make sure I’m doing it correctly. The only thing that is unclear is screw spacing. I’m screwing into osb. Do I want to like 12” or 16”?

I assume you are talking from horizontal row up to the next horizontal row, its 24"

Is this your first metal roof?

Horizontal: One in every valley.
Vertical: 24” as stated above

And.... to make your life much easier, make sure your metal is lined up on the ends and pre-drill the holes. Sure the metal roofing screws are self drilling but having done it both ways, pre-drilled is the way to go. Easier and makes for neat straight rows of screws.

Does this help? Usualy they want perlins every 2ft so vertically at least every 2ft. But since you have OSB under the roof I would do every 16in. What are you useing as metalroof underlayment?

I’ve done a few small roofs like some sheds and replaced damaged sections before but haven’t done one of this size before and screwing into osb. 24” seems like a pretty wide span.

The 24" is all you need. Its a lot of screws, keep in mind, the screwing schedule, I would follow the mfg screwing schedule. Hopefully, you have an anti siphon groove built in on the overlap part, you will need the gable trim, the facia panel, use panhead screws on facia metal, stitch screws are used for the ridge cap.

Use buytl tape to seal gable trim to roof, then screw onto fascia when the top is leveled. I used mini gable.

I also got the foam blocks to cover the ends of the grooves to keep bees and blowing snow out. Sticks on underside of roof at rafter tail end and different profile to stick on top where ridge cap sets.

Get tin snips, the offset ones, left handed and right handed.
