Doing the Ring Road?

Yes. Has taken 2 days to get 136 miles (216km), here for 2 weeks. Today got around to the west Snaefellsnes peninsula. From here up the west side of the island, so likely a lot more driving tomorrow as there aren't as many sights along the way... today was packed! Wish we had time for the West Fiords but not this trip. Sure is the land of waterfalls! Second day here and we are already cracking, "Oh look! It's a waterfall!" Beautiful!

We got in at 5:30am yesterday, got our campervan and went shopping for groceries and on the road before 9:00am. By 2:30pm we were hunting a camping spot..l we were both so tired we could hardly keep our eyes open, not good when driving in an unfamiliar environment... or anywhere for that matter! Stayed awake until 7:30pm then slept until 6:30am. Figured we had been awake ( no sleep on the plane, too noisy even with earplugs) for around 24-25 hours, just can't do that so well anymore!

That is a great trip! We did 17 days in 2015. It is impossible to pick a favorite spot.

Try some Skyr and their special rye bread. The rye bread with smoked salmon was a fave of mine.

What is the price of gas these days? We were paying about $1.50 a liter.

Been using Skyer on granola... gotta look for the rye bread, thanks!

Gas is ~$1.95/liter, diesel ~$1.80. It is what it is. Glad we chose the campervan route already, go where we want to and avoid what we aren't interested in. My thinking is that staying in hotels, eating at restaurants and taking tours would ultimately cost way more than the van/fuel.

Just mentioned your trip to Mrs Fishie, she loves cruising in our campervan, this trip might have to move up on our radar.

Enjoy and don't hesitate to share pics

We are similarly minded, though we do eat out as a treat once in a while. Maybe a lunch instead of a full dinner.

We do as well. On an island so going to do a nice sea food place at least once! Best sea food I've had to date was in a restaurant in Punta Arenas Chile, hoping we can top that!

Fish.... we have a Pleasure-Way class B campervan at home, this one we rented is mid sized, no high roof and no toilet... not quite our own van but comfortable enough. The Wabasto heater is sweet, way nicer than my Chinese diesel heater at home! We have already seen where we could make easy, simple changes to make this one more livable. The best thing about this van... actually the rental company, Campeasy, is an Android tablet loaded with information and navigation. Literally turn by turn to get you anywhere you want to go, and it tells you in time so you can make the turns!

Just moving north today. Really rainy and fortunately not a lot of "must sees" along the way. Going to go through a heritage museum today... a little outdoors a little indoors. Should be a good day for that.

Gosh, sounds like a dream trip. Jealous... I had this camper van for about 10 years. Cut a door in the side of it to haul motorcycles, traveled over all the western states. Then used it at the property while building the cabin. Then sold it to a homeless guy to live in.

Now, 30 years later, our travel is very limited. Caring for a severely disabled, wheelchair bound wife really cuts down on travel enjoyment for my old self. Luckily we have the cabin property well set up and close enough for easy enjoyment.

Iceland has been on the list for a while. We do hope we get a little nice weather though! When it opened up to visitors in March we bought tickets and rented the campervan. Up until the end of July all that was needed to get in the country was proof of vaccination for covid.

That all changed with the delta variant, we had to get tested prior to coming and will have to get tested here before we can return home. It became a large hassle.... the crazy thing is, my wife DID get the delta variant a couple months ago... didn't get horribly sick just a caugh and fatigue.... I had no symptoms at all, I really reacted to the second Moderna shot so I think my body made sufficient antibodies. We are pretty sure we won't get or spread the virus.

Funny.... now not just some but all the ads on these pages are Icelandic! I can speak 3 languages but Icelandic is not one of them! Heck I can't even pronounce most of the words!

"Hi I'm Jamie from dealer services calling to let you know....Yada, Yada, yada..." Who knows what they say after that!

We have a wifi hot spot in the campervan so Verizon wifi calling is active... is there any place you can go to get away from spam calls?
