I was wondering in anyone here bought land & built a cabin in St Lawrence county, NY? Any bylaws / permit related issue to be aware of? I am looking at couple of properties but want to make sure I can build eventually without any hassle. Would appreciate everyone's thoughts/input!

Are you within the "Blue Line" of the Adk park?

We bought 20 acres in St. Lawrence County last year about 30 miles south of Canton. You can check out our "White Birch Acres" thread.

When we checked with the town inpector about permiting for the cabin, he said that anything under 144 square feet would not need a permit. Our cabin exceeded that but the permit was very simple and cost under $40.

I have not been able to get a straight answer about the ability to put in a pit privy. We are going ahead going to be putting one in this summer anyway.

Let me know if you have any questions. Just stay out of the "ADK Park" if you want to stay away from regulations!

Thanks bobrok & toddheyn, let me look into this ADK Park line.

I am not familiar with the area at all. A bit of a background, I am looking at properties within 4 hrs drive from where I live (in Ontario, Canada) and St Lawrence county south of the border meets the criteria so started looking closely at some lots.

toddheyn, i am sure i will have more questions - thanks for offering to help answer.
