Dont know if these gens have a high rpm 'cut-out', a lot of motorcycles have them to stutter the ignition if you miss a gear at red-line shifts.
What you describe sounds like what I heard when I did on purpose with one of my bikes just to 'find out'.

When the RPM governor kicks in, they will make a very distinctive "babbling" at very high RPM. However, that only happens if the stepper motor controlling the throttle has no power.

I also think BC should read up on the manual. Yes the units "come out of Eco" on their own... but you are supposed to manually flip the switch if you are running high draw loads or things like motors with high startup current. It keeps the controller from hunting when a sudden hit comes.
