Well it looks like we are going to become Colorado residents instead of Arizona. We live up here 8-10 months out of the year (that will probably be reduced a month or two as we age) so we are getting grief from all over about what our address actually is. The post office forwards our mail up here and we renew the forwards every 6 months... now they are sending our Colorado address to the banks and utilities companies in AZ and they have changed the Addy. Just got a letter from ADOT and they are canceling the registration on our main vehicle, our pickup because it doesn't have AZ auto insurance.... that's because the insurance company got wind we were pretty much living up here... change of address... so made us put the pickup and Tracker on Colorado policies. Oh ADOT canceled the registration on the Tracker too. Both the pickup and the Tracker have a couple years left on the AZ plates, sucks we have to register them up here.
Oh well, seems the easiest thing to do is call the cabin our primary residence and the AZ home the "cabin!" Hey at least I won't have to pay big bucks for fishing license, in fact because I'm handicapped I can get a lifetime one for free!

Maybe it will all kinda balance out in the end 
Sad thing is that the 'powers that be' are so tightly wound about people like you/us trying to stay on the edge (or out of) the mainstream insanity. I contend that 'we' aint a problem.

There is residence, and there is domicile.
Domicile is the state you use for income tax, voting, health insurance, passport, and such. One domicile only per person, but you can have many residences but each state can have its own rules on whether or not the address in that state can be considered your domicile. Gets complicated.

Thanks ICC... I looked up AZ Domicile law and it requires 9 months a year actually living in the state. We live up here about 9-10 months of the year. Oops!
Just don't know how changing state of Domicile will affect our Medicare supplements, and other things. Need to talk to our insurance guy.

Yeah, I have a childhood friend who has been a full time RV'er for years and has picked Nevada as his domicile state but spends very little time there. It has certain other advantages for him.
I know from when I worked in surrounding states for portions of the year but called NM home for many years, I ran into all sorts of things. Some states have a 183 day rule, other are different. Dad had a lawyer and accountant on the ranch payroll and I got advice from them. That was handy and didn't cost extra and supposedly saved me money and potential grief.

The state of Georgia decides a temporary change of address means I no longer am a resident and removes me from voter rolls every election.
After a hassle from an insurance agent who handles my homeowners on the primary in Georgia my policy was cancelled. The agent at my secondary home found me seasonal coverage for less money than I was paying for permanent.
Second home is about three miles from North Carolina and about 9 miles from Georgia so people there understand crossing state lines every day.
