I came across some pictures that show a bit about the construction techniques used in building our cabin. This was making a fuel run and just for fun. You can see the pass through technique. The 2 logs extending out to support the upper deck are 8" wide. A bit bigger. As they also hold the TnG 2x6 pine floor in the upstairs.
A picture of the woodshed, it will get 5' of standing settled snow on it. I had to stash a 4 wheeler n lumber to build a 3 place wheeler shed. And the logs we skidded up for firewood are behind the shed. Never enough time for fun. Doubles as a meat pole. Some real bush ingenuity eh.
And the bear boards on the deck. I did have a bear poke holes in the front windows screen. Apparently while I was out I had a curious bear visit. The screen was torn off but the window was closed. It tried.
When I was designing this cabin I wanted the snow to clear away from it. I also had to bearproof it so windows are 7' up. I do need to make some boards to screw up under the windows as more protection. And since everything has to be freighted in , I used the utility poles for the foundation. Easy to get everything level n stay secure.
The roofline n such are still perfectly straight after several pretty good earthquakes and the floor is level so seems to be working ok.
Thinking I'm going to try a power washer the finish peeling the logs. They should come out looking a nice yellow color. Caulk n finish with a goodnight oil. Put a good paint on the exposed rim joists laminated beam n such. I do have some quick create in the generator shed to put a cement collar around the bottom of the utility poles but they stay dry.

Anyhows this was a great day to go cruising with our daughter n fiance

Very nice. I like the utility pole idea, easy to keep track of or replace. And the second story balcony.

That is called the "Butt-n-Pass" method, preferred method of the LHBA

Great pictures! Are you running low on firewood?

Yeah looks like the wood pile is empty. The cabin is full though. Probably have to go get some dead standing spruce n birch. The spruce bark beetles wiped out most of the mature spruce.
Getting firewood in the winter is ok. Nice n cool. Kinda nice if the snow isn't 4-5 deep but not bad. And cutting firewood under the light of the moon is kinda nice. Especially if the northern lights are dancing.

^^^^ This post was from a world I've not seen. Different thoughts and a different world from mine in Tennessee. Like your cabin, thinking real serious of doing a butt and pass myself.

Thank you.
