Thanks for posting the link. That was in interesting read, particularly how the toilet ballcock acts as a pressure relief valve during freeze-up.

That and the 43,000 PSI that freezing water can create with the 9% increase in volume as water goes from liquid to a solid.

But we do know why hot water will freeze first in a freezer: the warm water will evaporate faster until it cools, which results in a smaller volume of liquid water that needs freezing. Therefore, it takes less heat removal from the (now smaller) cup of water to freeze solid. That's the simple story, the details have to do with the high heat capacity of water.

Apparently, it depends.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't because there are other variables which can affect the results.
