Hello All,

I have a 39'x16' raised cottage and I'm looking for some advice on how to utilize the space underneath. We lived in an area that experiences a spring freshet, where the water level rises significantly (15-20') before returning to normal.
We have lifted the cottage, and have significant space undeath now. There is probably 10-12 feet of clearance. Ground is covered in clear gravel. due to the flooding I can't do anything permanent, but it would be great to find a way to make better use of the space! Currently used as space to store the canoes/kayaks.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

What do you want to store in there?

I would not feel compelled to use the space for anything but temporary storage, or a shaded parking space. The whole idea of raising the structure is to prevent damages. Leave it mostly free and clear so water can flow through freely and any floating debris has less chance of getting hung up on any "stuff" you have filled the space with.

I guess I am not looking to do anything permanent, rather looking for so ideas on what kind of additional seasonal living I can do down there.

Thinking about a screen tent for a temporary "bunkie" for the kids...

Seems like you could put a cool swinging bench hanging from that beam. Maybe a tire swing/swings for the kids?

If you do store anything, i would consider those ceiling mounted shelves they sell for garages where you can lower it down to remove things like plastic totes and such. Then when your done hoist it back up. That way you get year-round storage but it's kept up off the ground!
