Saw a guy, who could not get a permit for a deck, park a pontoon boat next to his house and used that.

With all the debates about building bunkies in Ontario....

What about parking your houseboat on your property and using that....

I know if they want to get you, they will.... but I just want one victory even a small one... lol

That’s basically how I built my cabin .I built a “barge” ,then built a cabin on top of it .Technically a boat so no building permits or taxes to deal with .Then I built a covered “dock” next to it .The tax man has seen it and just smiles and says “good job “ .I am in Ontario as well .

As one who can't stand overbearing governmental red tape, I applaud you sir. You win.

I feel the same way Bradish ,I could of done it the “right way “ but in my case I would of had to pay $15000.00 for a development fee ,which then would of allowed me to apply for a building permit ,for a lot I literally stole for only $15000.00 .I don’t think a 100% tax on something sounds very appealing ,especially since my lot is water access and the city will never improve a thing for me or my neighbours .

I have been using an 8x12 DIY 'Ice Shanty' built on an old camper trailer frame as my toolshed/powerhouse.
It would make a dandy bunkie. Fellow who made it styled it after those old 1930's trailers, a peaked roof to a sorta pointed front end at the tongue.
Its an ice fishing shanty, on wheels, not a shed or structure on the ground...no taxes.
Just today paid the $50 permit fee to bring in a pre-built storage building, on skids. It will become the workshop/toolshed/maybe powerhouse and the 'shanty may become a bunkie somewhere on our 9ac.
Oh, yeah.....I just parked the shanty over in the woods to get it out of view

I have a small sailboat of size 16 feet in length, and I used to store them in a storage shed during the hot summer season. The shed of size 20-feet long is built with three bays, and I used to keep one bay for storing boat accessories. Apart from the door, the shed also consists of two hinged barn sash windows and a louvred wood vent installed in the pine board and batten siding. You can also opt for a storage shed for storing the boat safely. Also, building a small shed doesn't make much expense to you.
