Hey all,

Would love to see your ponds. Do you swim in it?

My dream is to make something like this:

Very cool. Every pond on my mountain ends up stagnant and full of algae. They become mosquito factories. I guess because they do not have any flow. Basically they only catch rain water.

I have a seasonal spring in a ravine that could fill a small pond. Area is covered with trees and the water is ice cold. A previous owner dammed it up with rocks and soil but it failed over time. I found a couple of videos on youtube where concrete was used to make a dam on a full time stream. They put in small hydro.

I want to make a small dam but I haven't got a round-tuit.

Boy that sure looks nice. Been discussed before. I have a small pond behind the shop, a triangle about 40' per side and 3-4' deep. Not big enough for laps but I'd sure jump in it if it were worthy. It's concrete, was a fish pond. This is mid winter, it leaks out quick, dry now, would need a liner.

But as Dave and others have mentioned a bug haven, plus in my case about a mile of hillside and trees to drop debris. I would need a pool service to keep it clean, 'cause I got enough to do. I sure do envy the cabineers who are on lakes..

Same here, almost every pond is a mess.
I have 3 or 4 small lakes within 5ish miles and one has a nicely developed small public beach . The others have public boat landings where a wade or flop can be made.
After building about 25 years ago and maintaining a 12' dia Koi pond since there is No Way Id want to maintain a pond at the cabin.

We have mom's pond out in front of the cabin. Little pond that's probably 10-12 acres in size. Always seems to attract swans or geese laying eggs. And is my favorite spot to hunt moose from.
I also enjoy staying out there after dark when moose hunting as the wolves come out n play. We land on an uninhabited during the summer months that is has a couple beaver houses on it that are fun to explore too. Or just take my beautiful wife for a canoe ride. She paddles and I chill

this is our off grid pool we build. it has a liner, clean through the the plants areas that have weeping tile under them and bubble pumps move the water through plant area.

A natural swimming pool is a chemical-free pool that uses the same principles as nature to filter out harmful microorganisms. This is how the system works: The pool has two distinct parts: the swimming area and a regeneration zone that features all types of plants that feed hydroponically on the water.

I think that around here anything more than a yard pond requires permits. Best to check, be a shame to go to the work and expense and find you are afoul of the powers that be.
