The cabin gods have smiled on us:)
A neighbor brought in a backhoe to do some work on his property. A septic installer was needing some cash. A bunch of rock, sand and concrete "fell off the back of a truck" (paid for in cash of course:) and for about 6K (plus steak and beer every time we go up for all the boys), we are getting a septic system installed and a 30x30 pad for a "future building site"
We are so excited!!!! Everyones question to us now is will we pull a permit and are we going to build a big cabin.....my answer is why?? our 160sq feet suits us just fine:) The only thing we are going to add is a 4x4 building, right next to the septic field with a flushing toilet installed:)

6k for a septic sounds really high to me.. Is that about right guys?.. I have been looking into compost toilets cause I figured 3k for a septic.

i am with smitty on this one, i am paying $300 labor, and buying my material's for less than $500..........i hope i am getting out for less than $800 total.....

Err folks you are missing a couple of things regarding nicalisa's situation.
From their OP their place is water/ocean access only. So from my understanding the backhoe and materials had to be barged in.
A friend of mine who was building a cabin on a channel island a few years back was quoted $20k for their septic system to meet the new codes for septic.
So $6000 was a steal when all is considered.

I agree with bugs. The new septic regulations here in BC have made installing new systems ridiculously expensive even in an easily accessible location. I think she's getting a great deal and congratulations to her to be able to do it that way!!

That sounds more like it than.. Lol.. Haven't figured out who is who and where they are at yet.. I imagine that would be pretty pricey where he is, regardless..

Our BC regs for septic make it impossible now to DIY. Basically the province no longer regulates septic installation, the regulators are the installers (fox in the hen house??), so they can charge what they want and if you look the price of systems has increased by nearly 50% since the change. The only way to get a permit in the future was to have the septic installed, approved, and public health sign off on it. Our neighbors had their stage 2 system installed for nearly 30k and that was the best estimate that they could get. Barging alone is thousands for the machine as they usually barge from the other side of the inlet. 6K is a great deal as we need a stage 1 system and were looking at about 20k all in.
BC may be beautiful, but elimination is a challenge:)
