Hi.

I have the opportunity to get this type of spool for free. Do any of you have any ideas of what one could be used for? They seem like they could be very functional, but I haven't been able to come up with any good ideas for at the cabin.

Same as bed angle iron. I would cut any thing straight off and scrap the rest. I stack the stuff like cord wood when I can get it.

Not even worth the scrap metal value. A couple of months ago I recycled some steel and it was 4 cents a pound. It was only because I had a sizeable amount of copper and aluminum that I bothered. Plus it got rid of some mess

Like Bret said you could cut the straight pieces out and make all kinds of things outta them. Maybe log racks?
I see things like a table. Mount half of it on a post and hang potted plants or bird house on. Could probably even use it for a clothes line if it's mounted high enough.
Or if you have kids or grand kids. Take and old axle and brake drum. Bury it in concrete then put half the spool on top for a merry go round.
You could cut the spools in sections and use it for a deck railing, a hand railing for a foot bridge or fencing for the sides of your driveway or to block off the edges of a culvert.
The possibilities are only limited to your mind and how many tools/time you have. Lol
Here's a custom drawing of the fence or railing idea. 🤪😝🤔

Great ideas Darz. But now I might have to keep my eyes open for some.

I could make a cool chair/ love seat for the fire pit with that!
