Malamute

Just wondering if you do any hunting in that great country you live in?

A bit. I'm not a huge hunter, just for meat. Will be hunting elk in Nov.

May sound odd, but I don't enjoy killing stuff, just like having the meat, and enjoy getting out. I do enjoy grouse hunting, not exacty the kill, but taking the dogs out. They, however, like the part where the grouse falls out of the tree.

Edit: Forgot, I hunted bunnies in my yard last winter. They had been gathering in large gangs, I was figuring they were waiting for their chance to pounce on me. I'd walk out the door and 6 would dash off in different directions. There's probably 30 in my yard (10 acres) all told. A friend had mentioned he had a great recipe for bunnies, and I had that 1851 Colts Navy replica that had been sitting loaded for a year or two. Was curious if it would fire reliably. No problem. 4 shots for 3 bunnies, one handed. First shot I'd forgotten how high it shot. Mostly I just enjoy seeing the bunnies, and they and my dogs have an agreement to keep each other in shape by jogging together.

Interesting and I can relate to the kill also. I like bow hunting so there isn't to many kills going on but mostly being out in the outdoors. I'm in the hills and along the rivers all the time and enjoy just being with nature as well. I do hunt but it isn't the size of the animal is about the challenge and adventure each time you set in to the wild country. If I get something bow hunting it is a blessing and if not I'm happy as well.

I always enjoy your posts and the land where you live.

Not odd at all. My family likes the taste of venison better than beef though I'm ambivalent. I've never enjoyed watching animals die and carry a pistol for dispatching deer quickly - even during bow season and primitive.

It's a bit of a quandary when your sir name is Hunter.

Malamute.....I have a 1851 navy as well...It was my first purchase. Since then the list has gotten bigger. my 1873 lever action is still my favorite.

Where about on the front range are you? I'm up in the mountains west of boulder
