many people want to buy remote land or build cabin in the county.
When i hear people ask others about code and permits. This tells me they bought land somewhere there are too many regulations. Why buy land to get away, only to find out there are city, county and state donut kings telling you what you can build and what you can do. The whole Idea of moving out of city is to get away from the rat race. The best states to buy land are states with less demacrats. More Demacrats equals more goverment rules and permits.
Buy free land, in states and counties that you can build without hassel.
I have meet city people near me who moved in, ask what they can do on there land. I guess so many people are so brow beat down, they do not even know there own rights as americans. Your land, you paid for, Why would you have to ask permission to use it.
One more thing. Once your cabin or house is done, it is grandfathered in. They cant do anything.
On permits, remember. Permits are them giving you permission with there user agreement you signed. Remember if they could take away your rights, without your signature, they would not ask for it, they would just enforce it. This is why they need your signature before permit can be forced on you.
Anytime you sign your name, you just lost rights. Without your signature, they have to contract power. this is why they insist you sign permits.

Whatever you choose to do without permits,,,,, if you want to stay out of the limelight, you should probably choose the ones that you can do without causing trouble. If you dam up a river or pollute the creek, the other Americans downstream might be inclined to assert their rights too.

I have not experienced the same line of logic between Republicans and Democrats, each have their own favorite laws and both use threats of enforcement to serve their own opinions. If you want to do things without permits, you probably should keep it off the radar of nearby Republicans too.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thread gets cut, there's nothing like politics to ruin a great forum .......... (or a great country for that matter).

republican and democrats work for the same elite, its just a game and i refuse to play it. but i tend to agree with you on everything else. if you're going to go country gotta leave the city behind. west virginia was a state with unincorporated areas you can do what you want. i almost bought land up in a hollow there, but if you intend to have a job, good luck.

Rules are not a political thing; they are a population thing. When you have people living close enough together to be able to see what their neighbor is doing, then you get rules.

I bought my place in a KS county with only 3000 people; most of those live in the small towns. There are no permits, inspections, or licenses required. When I moved here in '97, I took a look around to see what was needed that would let me make a living and, at the same time, become part of the community. So, I started fixing things and taking the carpentry jobs that most didn't want to mess with or know how to do. I created a nitch for myself that's worked out pretty well. I couldn't do what I do in a city because I'd need three or four licenses.

You wanna build stuff right because it's better, not because the government makes you. And being a 'professional builder', I see the ridiculous codes every day, many make no sense, some are obvious results of lobbyists (Simpson, concrete?)
Just find a place where you can do what ya want, they're all over this country!
