Hi!

Thought I would share some pics of the little place I recently built on some land from the family farm where I grew up. I've had the land since 1993 and finally decided to do something with it. It is in Swanville, Maine on 8 1/2 acres. The footprint is 16' x 20' including the 6' porch on the front. There is a loft over the porch with folding pull-up stairs to access. The foundation is a concrete slab. Drains for a sink and a shower were installed under the cement. The toilet is an outhouse. I am using Coleman lanterns and LED lanterns for light and cooking with a propane stove. Heat is a vented 18,000 BTU propane wall heater. I built it all myself using all new materials. The cost including all permits, foundation and materials was $9000. Next summers project will be installing a small solar electric power system to run a small television and maybe a very small refrigerator.

Very nice. I see your using a propane lantern...I just made the switch recently myself from the old coleman fuel lantern...much easier to use. Welcome to the forum and Merry Christmas.

Hotroddoug - OK, what do you drains drain to? I have built pits with sand and rocks to filter the grey water. Also, I am interested in how you made the swing-up ladder for the loft. I have to make something like that over the Winter for our place and have some ideas but would like to hear how you did yours. I love the shingles on the exterior - great look and nicely done. Do you plan to stain or paint them? Really nice design!

Pics of the foldup stairs. I used a game hoist from Cabellas with 8:1 mechanical advantage.

So, Hotroddoug......are you a rodder? I thought from your name that possibly you were into muscle-cars or street rods. Any chance? My son (Old buddy) and I were into it for quite a spell but it passed, like everything else.

You have a real nice cabin with a pretty piece of land. Welcome to the forum.
