Yes, thats true, LHBA methods are great for light to medium duty log securements. I went with the original 1800's Santa Fe caisson method( except used rebar rather than the 1" square hand forged spikes that were used in those days) , after visiting several of their old remaining caissons in nevada and california and seing firsthand how they were constructed, and still hold back hundreds of tons of rock, over a century later.

What is really sad is the LHBA owners/managements response to a great opportunity invitation to come out and see how an original style super-size version is being built, so they could give that info to their students who wish to build supersized.

Anyone that takes public domain already established building techniques, and put it into a class/seminar format, to help their students build the best possible log structure is doing a great thing. Many people have been helped greatly to build their own cabins because of the classes.

It's when they litigously/threateningly refuse to even look at great info expanding on their teachings, and show the origin designs LHBA copied(which ANY business that professes to want to give their students the best information would do)and instead steal/glom onto other Expansionist era engineering techniques as their OWN invention, it makes sense that they try to hide that fact by forcing NDA's onto people who don't know any better, so they don't get caught and publicly shamed for plagarism.

You can get all of their "propretary" techniques by looking up the 1830, to 1835 patents taken out for the trestle systems construction by many railroads of the era. But then that exposes their plagarism.

Sorry if I sound down on the LHBA owners, but to be threatened to be sued (after I sent them a freindly welcoming email to come see a huge version of what they teach, for something they KNOW is already existing in 1800's US Patent records, shows they have no interest in actual "truth" to share with their students, instead they are trying to hide that you can get all their "prorietary" info for free if you just do patent searches.

What should happen is all the LHBA members should instead open their own website and share experiences and build stories without the censorship and hiding their copycat techniques.

If you want, you can see a full pictorial of our castle build at roseironwoodcastle.com. andall are welcome to come see the build, anytime!

Here are some pics of my metalwork that I am handmaking for the castle, that chandelier is 10 feet in diameter, and I made it from cut steel filigree framing and inlaid it with split selenite and lepidolite crystals that are illuminated by gaslights.

Old post resurrected. I am now a full fledged member of the LHBA, great investment. Their methods are simple, solid, reliable and rock solid when done. Lots of advantages to their methods. You deviate, it will cost you more money. But one is certainly entitled to deviated anywhere he wants.

I signed up for and took the online course during the pandemic. LHBA seem to have the market cornered on cheap + simple + strong.

Art, you know you can do a home building class of your own with your style/technique, nice work, plus a separate ornamental metal working class too.

Yes, as stated already, very nice work.

Thanks, yes, have taught classes to local44 before on how ro build log cabin movie sets, and also taught at Pasadena Art Center College of Design, I am nowadays unable to do dedicated classes, as my schedule and travels literally on last minute art commissions send me overseas or out of state, and I know most people need several weeks advance notice.

If anyone wants to, they are invited to pm me and come by, would be happy to show all the build techniques, filming is welcome!
