Its the worst feeling ever, you'd think after a time or two it would become habit, but i guess i get too excited to put the boat in. Ive always caught it before its too late, but ive been awful close atleast once. No worse feeling than hoping your boat ends up at the bottom of the drink

Yesterday I forgot the gas can to fill up my generator. Had to take the generator up to the gas station which was a pain.
I also bought a bunch of material to put up inside the cabin but neglected to bring the 5# box of screws to install it with. Luckily I had some leftover screws from the exterior that I was able to use to get them tacked up good enough until I get the bulk of them down there.

We always bring the can and plan on filling it along the way and then get to the cabin and...darn it...we forgot!!!!!!!!! We have to go about 6 miles to get to the closest gas station. Not the end of the world but still annoying!!!

I am totally OCD about my garage at home and regularly get 1/2 a block away and circle back to confirm its closed.
I have a "to the cabin" list in my cell phone and update it nonstop. I'll be sitting on the roof working or on my back under the cabin and add things to that list.
I am getting to a stage where I don't have to bring as much to the cabin back and forth tool and material-wise. I remember making almost endless trips of joists and lumber....back and forth from cabin, a couple hundred feet to van and back. I'm sure many of you have it way worse.
I will eventually have a list at the cabin of what to close and shutoff...especially for when I let friends go to the cabin without me.

Its soooo nice when your place is done and you don't have to lug your entire toolbench every trip.
Stiff upper lip to those who are still building; it'll get better, trust me. :)

Now that we have the cabin, nothing we forget is too earth-shattering anymore. Back in our camping days,
Took a racing canoe on a whitewater trip as rookies. RIP Red Rocket.
On our trip from the headwaters to Minneapolis realized I'd left my rainfly 3 days in. We didn't hit another town until 3 days later.
On our first night camping about treeline we hoofed up, watched the sunset, and went back to camp. After 5 minutes. "Uh did you bring the tent" "Nope, did you?"
She married me anyway. Some women are just nuts.

i am the one who usually forgets something when we go to the cabin.gar has lists.i have become so use to him asking me all the items on the list and doing the check offs.i just tend to say yes,yes,yes,and yes.
one thing that helps is take a picture of your kitchen.u can see in it if u still have a box of matches on the counter.
now gar is making a new list of things we already have down there.he is a good one for remembering everything.

This is exactly what we do. If we need to replace something that is low, we tip it over in the photo. Sometimes, my wife will even go as far as to hold up however many fingers of an item that needs replacing. Makes it super easy. We probably take a dozen at the end of every trip.

lists saved on the computer in an excel spreadsheet are a G_dsend. I have "construction lists", 3 day at camp lists, 1 day visit lists, build the deck lists (just in case we do a second one), materials list, free CL lumber lists, etc...
What should be obvious is the fact that I can't remember squat, but I don't forget where my lists are so that I don't have to! LOL!

hmmmm, MR Troll...if you hadn't forgotten the side rails for our bed the last time you went up then this past weekend we wouldn't have had to put the mattress across the bed sideways cause you would have already discovered that a queen size is longer than a full/dbl and you would have been able to have those lengthened by now so that it didn't feel like we were sleeping in a crib!!!!!!!!

Yeah, ok, I did forget the side rails but dicovered scooting out of bed that way leads to a major wedgie , lesson learned. BTW , TB looked beautiful this weekend!!!

Once my girlfriend and I forgot the tent poles when we went camping. Didn't realize until we were unpacking the tent - had to get creative with some nylon rope we brought.

OOPSY...........it's not what we forgot to bring to the cabin this time but what we forgot to bring back home...our new can of paint and a can of varnish. Had to go back and grab them so they would not freeze.

When I lived in town,I built my cabin and barn with mostly battery powered tools but I'd always get there and realize I have the tools but the batterys are still sitting home on the counter or in the charger.Made many a trips back for somthing or another.Was only 3 miles though.

rayyy....................you had me feeling really sorry for you cause we use a lot of those battery operated tools too and without the battery you really are up a creek.....................but then I read your last sentence and well.......................now I just don't feel sorry for you anymore LOL!!!! Lol,,,That's why I couldn;t refuse to buy this piece of land.The price was right,the location was right,the acreage and layout was right,the distance from town and my job was right,It's remote and private back here.Nice township to be in,great neighbors.I'm very pleased with my decission to "go for it"

It is so cool you went for it rayyy...I love hearing about your conquest living off the grid!!! How is the 8 inches of peanut butter doing??? Firmed up some I hope.....maybe only 2 inches now!!
and Just....."just think" if you forget your medication....at least you can WALK home to get it!!!! Maybe a zip-line from cabin to house would be handy!!!!
