I did it again.....................................................I forgot the CHEESE............why is it always the cheese????????????????? I also forgot butter for the second time in a row-luckily my son was able to grab both on his way up.

About 1/2 way home I realized we also left the window in the outhouse open.......................dang...and with ALL the rain we've been getting that isn't good!!!! Oh well...there's worse things in life.......

Great thread! I don't think I go a trip without forgetting something. Sometimes there is so much to get ready!

When we forget something we just make do, since the cost and time of the trip back out pretty much ruins the weekend.

Like Trollbridge I forget the cheese and butter all the time! Even if I bring butter I never bring enough... I like making blackberry or blueberry cobbler so when I remember I bring only a stick of butter, forgetting that people like butter on their blueberry pancakes, corn on the cob, and biscuits. The best time was Thanksgiving and mashed potatoes without butter. Surprisingly they turned out!

Once in a fly in trip to a friend's cabin, I forgot water, which was a big deal! We had a water filter but the lake water has tannins. Needless to say we put in a lot of Gatorade powder for the water!

Building wise, it seems the hauling of tools back and forth always contributes to missing or forgetting tools, especially when you think something's in the tool shed!

I'm sure I have forgotten other forgetful moments!

Last time I didn't bring toilet paper...it's not so much that I forgot, but more that I didn't even realize we were out, until we got there. This weekend I'm going to remember to restock, and by writing it here it is going to be my reminder...I also need to bring foil pans for cooking and more paper plates!

That is why is use combo locks on our gates.

I'm a pretty hardcore list user. When I forget something it's because it is too obvious for the list and then it gets left.

We always forget something (or things) when we make the 830 mile trip to our cabin. Fortunately, my mom still lives about a 1/2 mile from the cabin, my brother (who owns any tool I might need) is only an hour and a half away and town is only 30 miles away. We also have to small general stores within a couple of miles.

These are all much closer options then the 14 hour drive back to home.

We have created a check list for shutting up the cabin at the end of a visit to make sure we don't forget anything important....like latching the outhouse door or closing the windows. It has been a big help. Will be adding to it as we get the well and plumbing and other things finished up at the cabin.

We are still in the hauling everything up to cabin and back to home stage. Hubby always asks me when will be the time that we do not bring home as much as we bring up. Soon I hope.
Have not been too bad on the forgetting thing. Just once I forgot my meds. that made for a rough weekend. I keep a spiral notebook and I write down everything I need to restock or items needed that have not make it to the cabin yet. Hubby keeps one on his phone for the building supplies. Once I forgot the notebook at home, but luckily I had packed all the items on the list. I just did not have it to jot down at the cabin that trip. And of course I lost the loose paper I wrote it on that trip.

Im also notoriuous for the lists before we leave for the cabin. I also keep a big plastic rubber maid bin at home that is for anything I bring home that needs to go back to the cabin like towels, bedding etc. Lately my family has been getting me duplicate tools for Christmas and birthdays so I can have stuff at the cabin and at home. I still manage to forget things though and it's usually the obvious stuff that I don't put on a list. Quite often it's the cell phone charger I forget to bring and up by our place the phone is usually searching for a signal so the battery can die pretty quickly!

Wow! This really brings a lot back to me. We have forgotten almost all of the things mentioned here - including putting the plug in our bowrider before launching. Almost lost it. And wouldn't you know it, but the bilge decided to stop working then too. I have also made lists then forgot those or where I put them. One time I too forgot to load our cooler with the weekend food. Luckily, I was filling our truck with gas before leaving town and happened to see the very same cooler in the back of someone else's truck. It reminded me of what I forgot and I was able to quickly go back and get it. I still don't see where this will help me remember stuff. Live and learn, and learn, and learn...

Sometimes I forget to take the wife and kids. Those weekends I call "productive"!

My problem is forgetting stuff at the cabin, probably because i am hung over!!!

I once borrowed a friends heavy duty week wacker got about an hour from the cabin on my way home and realized i forgot! i had to turn around and go back and get it since i new he needed it the next weekend. I have also left my power and lights on, something i never due since i normally pull the breakers when i leave.

To many times phones and walets have been left up there, i know have a check list before i leave to make sure i have everything!!!

Nothing. The stuff that comes home has designated area of shelves in the basement with space for the new pile of stuff going to the cabin. Lists are kept as well.
