Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Came across this site looking for some solar ideas. I have been lurking for about a week and have now signed up with an account. I have read several of the different threads here. What a great site!
I am from Wisconsin and have built two different cabins. My first one I still have, although I have it for sale. It is a 16x24 log cabin with no available power. I have a solar set up there. Open concept with a loft for sleeping. It has a bathroom with a compost toilet, and a shower in which I use a 2gallon garden sprayer with a shower head attached for a nice hot shower. On 5 acres in a somewhat secluded location.
The second one I built and sold. That one was a bit larger and on a river. 24x32 with a large loft and covered porch overlooking the river. That one had power and water.
Both were built using 6"x8" square rough cut timbers. Glued and screwed together, then outside was chinked. Very easy and cost effective. I will be posting pics soon on one of the threads already going.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and a little about me. Looking forward to everything this site has to offer!

This is the larger cabin that I built and sold. For some reason, I can't find a picture of the exterior, but it is a chalet style with a covered front porch.
I really enjoyed building both of these. The smaller one I pictured above was something I had dreamed and planned for quite a long time, actually since I was a kid. It was great seeing that dream come to reality. Unfortunately, the wife and kids prefer something a little more modern, which is why I have put that one up for sale. This one that I have pictured here was supposed to be a money making venture, although I enjoyed the planning and building just as much. When this one sold, we were able to purchase a vintage little cottage on a lake, and the family really enjoys that one.

both of these cabins are beautiful and I'm sure it was hard to part with them! You should post pics of your vintage cottage on the lake....I love vintage which is also why I LOVE the old appliances in your buckhorn cabin!!!! Those are a real find. Did you sell them with the cabin? Lucky buyer!
Not sure how I missed your thread when you first posted, but I'm glad I saw it now!
