Hey Russ...

Just realized where ya'll are located.

My father in law has a ranch not too far from you (as TX goes...haha) out by Sanderson. His place backs up right on the Rio.

He has been working on it when he has the time for about 10 years or so. It is quite a piece from Houston so he has to make time when he gets some.

Small world...

We are open for biz-ness;)

We moved from the old cabin into this new one. We still have a fold-away couch we need to move into the place and a little more "decorating", but she's a LOT warmed in the winter and cooler in the summer than the old cabin!

Cabin looks great. I have one in central texas and I'm getting ready to do the insulation this coming month.

What did you end up doing for the insulating and venting of the roof? Do you have soffit vents venting up to a ridge vent? Is your roof made from 2x6's or 2x8's?

How cool does the unit stay in the summer time? Any issues with moisture or condensation?

Do you have any type of vapor barrier or insulation under the cabin?

It looks like your walls and ceiling are 6" wide unfinished planks?

How did you put the floors down and what are they, laminate or engineered wood? Was there a vapor barrier between the plywood floor and the wood you installed? Any buckling or warpage of the wood flooring if you have no vapor barrier underneath the cabin?

These new pics show how far you have come. It looks so good. Great memories will be made there. We are at the 2 yr mark and most things are done. But we always think of new projects. How about you?

So many questions.. let's see.. heh
1 - I used 2x6's for the rafters and a dual 2x8 beam I made.. might be 2x10.. I forget but will check the next time I go out.

I have zero issues with moisture. Idid wrap the outside with the same felt I used for the roof. I was told that in the area I was in, that using a moisture barrier would actually hurt as it would cause mold INSIDE the house by trapping it in... so I opted to just felt the outside then cover that with hardiplank.

All I have on the roof is the rafters, then radiant barrier OSB and then felt and metal roofing. I did not add an enclosed "soffit as there are too many critters that get into all the little holes and then die inside so it is fully sealed.

I do not have any insulation under the cabin, yet.. I plan to do something later, but need to afford spray in as critters, again, will use it as a home if they can... so has to be spray in.

The walls are pine fence pickets that we hand cut every .. every.. did I mention every? (heh) single one. I wanted tng, but could not afford it.. so 5 pallets of pine fence, 5.5" wide.

The floors are the least expensive wood laminate wood floring I could get with the best deluxe under floor layer I could find, for comfort and it helps hide the fact that most the floor in a pier and beam does not stay even.. heh. The flooring is called (ironically) Winchester... for a hunting cabin ;)

There is a natural "buckling" of the floor from the fact it is pier and beam and I am not perfect by any means, but the floor is holding up fairly well. I floated it, vs gluing it, and just layed it out and kept it as close to the wall as I could with a little "edge" for expansion/movement.

There are ALWAYS new projects This weekend, replaced the water pump, to find out it was not broken, just needed to be primed, so I am going to reconfigure the water system a little to add a priming valve above the pump next time out.

I also need to replace the water heater.... again.. no idea how it went bad, but someone turned the water on while I was gone and ran my 2550 gallon tank dry.. so it might have not liked that.

We will be adding 2 more tanks next month (already bought them) and a manifold to ensure that we are not without water again.

The local guy sells water at $.50 cents per gallon. a steep price I do not ever plan to buy.

If only I was a water well digger for a living or knew one that liked to hunt :P
